The May Artist of the Month is Darline Murat. Darline is an emerging artist based in Sussex County, Delaware working in charcoal and mixed media whose work explores God’s voice. Through a combination of charcoal smears and brushstrokes, her pieces capture the silent voices within both neglected and overlooked subjects and landscapes. Drawing inspiration from nature within her own travels and walks along the shore, she finds ways to highlight the voices within the details. Darline’s interest in art began in early childhood. In middle school, she spent the summer attending the Rehoboth Art League Club at her local library where she discovered acrylic painting. From there she took several art classes in high school and college to explore other art avenues. This was where she fell in love with charcoal and the different forms of textures. She holds a Master of Science in Molecular Biology and Genetics and her fascination with the intricacy within the animal genome is what drives her detailed art-form. Her previous art has been displayed in various exhibits. She has a series which helps find the divine details of Holy Week, two of which are on display.
