1:00 PM Wednesday, September 30

Repairs to the water system are now complete, and we will be working on restoration and cleanup for several days. Concrete sidewalk restoration will take a little longer, but will completed as soon as the repair has settled. Required water samples are being tested and we will confirm those results when received on this same post.

We have a street sweeper coming through tomorrow, October 1 to help clean up the area.

We want to sincerely thank our Public Works team, along with Elvin Schrock & Sons, Inc. for coming to our aid this morning and performing quickly and professionally!

Included in the photos is the section of broken pipe after it was cut out - which speaks volumes to the power and force of water. While you may be imagining a large missing section, or a pipe broken in half, this amount of damage and disturbance was caused by what appears to be simple "hairline" crack.
Can you spot it?

Repairs have been underway this morning. Please be cautious on Market Street as crews work in the area.
Flaggers are on site to help direct traffic.

10:55 PM UPDATE - WATER MAIN BREAK ON MARKET STREET

The water main break is now isolated and anyone experiencing any pressure loss during the break should see pressure restoring tonight.

At approximately 8:40 PM tonight, a water main break occurred on the East side of Market Street near Mechanic Street. The break was identified and isolated, but we experienced a large amount of water loss which temporarily flooded the roadway.

We were incredibly lucky tonight - a Town employee driving by noticed the leak within two minutes of it spreading across the roadway per camera footage. The break occurred in a 10" main, which is an estimated flow of 3,000 gallons per minute.
Because of this lucky catch, our crews were able to arrive quickly and address the problem. We are incredibly thankful for their attention and responsiveness tonight. 💙

We have repairs scheduled for 7:00 AM tomorrow morning., Wednesday, September 30, 2026. The main is located in the sidewalk area, so we do not expect to impact the roadway more than necessary to complete the repairs. Please be cautious in the area as crews work.

There is still some residual water on the roadway tonight, but it is draining, and the roadway is open.

During the main break, you may have experienced a sudden drop in water pressure due to the size of the line. This level of disturbance often stirs up sediment in the system, and you may also see temporary discoloration. At this time, as the incident was and is isolated, we are not issuing a mandatory boil water notice. As part of the repair, we are required to test the system before returning the isolated area to service. If you are concerned about your water quality, we recommend taking the precaution to boil water until the results are returned.

Please follow this post for any important updates should this information change.
