🔥 Delaware Burn Ban in Effect 🔥

From May 1 to September 30, Delaware enforces a statewide burn ban. During this period, most outdoor burning activities are prohibited to ensure public safety and protect our environment.

✅ Permitted Activities: ✅
- Cooking fires
- Recreational campfires
- Ceremonial bonfires

These activities are allowed year-round, provided they use firewood, charcoal, propane, or natural gas.

🚫 Prohibited Activities: 🚫
- Burning leaves
- Burning trash
- Burning construction debris
- Burning residential yard waste (including limbs, branches, and shrubbery)

If you witness illegal burning, please report it to the DNREC Environmental Hotline at 800-662-8802

In cooperation with the State of Delaware, Sussex County has received 1,400 smoke alarms to be distributed throughout the fire departments. Bridgeville Volunteer Fire Company and Indian River Fire Company coordinated efforts for delivery and housing.
