As the severe weather alert has now been extended through February 15th, 2026, Bridgeport Rescue Mission is seeking additional volunteer support staff to assist members of our community during this cold stretch.

🚨 Severe Cold Weather Alert 🚨

The Governor has activated the Severe Cold Weather Protocol, effective 5:00 PM tonight (Wednesday, January 14th) through 12:00 PM Thursday, January 15th. 🥶

A surge of arctic air is moving into our area, bringing dangerously cold conditions overnight into Friday morning.

🌡️ What to expect:
• Overnight lows in the low to mid-teens
• Wind chills between 0°F and +10°F
• Northwest wind gusts up to 25 mph 💨

Residents in need of assistance are encouraged to call 2-1-1 for available resources.
Additionally, Alpha Community Services at 650 Park Avenue will accommodate individuals as needed.

We are expecting approximately 6 inches of snow, beginning tomorrow evening and continuing overnight into Saturday, tapering off around 1:00 PM.
If you must travel during the storm, please use extreme caution. ❄️☃️🌨️

⚠️ Important Safety Reminders:
• Never use a stove or oven as a heat source. This is extremely dangerous and can lead to carbon monoxide poisoning, fires, burns, and poor indoor air quality. ⚠️🔥🚫
• Portable generators must always be used outdoors, far away from doors, windows, and vents. Follow manufacturer instructions carefully to prevent carbon monoxide poisoning. ⚠️☠️🔌

Please be advised that our region is under a Wind Advisory from midnight tonight through midnight tomorrow.

A storm system is forecasted to arrive late Thursday night into early Friday morning, bringing strong winds and periods of heavy rain, with rainfall totals expected to exceed one inch. 💨🌧️🌂

• A narrow line of heavy showers, with possible embedded thunderstorms, is expected to move through early Friday morning. ⛈️
• Wind gusts of 25–35 mph are likely, with peak gusts exceeding 45 mph, especially along the coast. 🌀

Mayor Joe Ganim and the Bridgeport Emergency Operation Center have activated Cold Weather Protocol effective:

🕛 Sunday, December 14, 2025 at 12:00 PM

❄️ WEATHER ADVISORY

A period of intense cold is expected across the Bridgeport area, with dangerously low wind chill values near or below zero, especially during overnight and early morning hours.

Residents are urged to take precautions and prepare for hazardous cold, snow, and icy conditions.



🌡️ FORECAST OVERVIEW

• Temperatures will remain well below normal
• Overnight lows in the single digits
• Wind chills near or below zero
• Increased risk during prolonged outdoor exposure
• Snow and ice may impact travel, especially during morning commutes

⚠️ Use extreme caution on roadways, particularly near:
• Viaducts and underpasses
• Flood-prone or icy areas
• Do not attempt to drive through flooded roadways

Governor Ned Lamont has activated the Severe Cold Weather Protocol, effective today and tomorrow, due to dangerously cold temperatures across the state. 🥶❄️⚠️

During this period, temperatures are expected to remain well below normal, with overnight lows in the single digits and wind chills near or below zero, particularly during the overnight and early morning hours. Daytime temperatures will remain cold, and residents should anticipate prolonged exposure risks if outdoors. 🧊🥶

While calling 2-1-1 for available resources is recommended, I have also been in contact with Alpha Community Services YMCA, located at 650 Park Avenue, and they will accommodate individuals as needed.

❄️ WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY – BRIDGEPORT, CT ❄️

A strong cold front is expected to move into our region Saturday evening and remain through Sunday afternoon.

🌨️ Snow is forecasted to begin around 7:00 PM Saturday and continue until approximately 1:00 PM Sunday, with around 2.5 inches of accumulation expected.

Road conditions may become hazardous as temperatures drop, with icy travel likely overnight and into Sunday morning. Residents are urged to plan ahead and use extreme caution if travel is necessary.

Bridgeport’s Public Facilities team is prepared and ready as we head into the first snow event of the winter season.

⚠️ EXTREME COLD EXPECTED – WIND CHILLS NEAR ZERO

The Bridgeport CERT Program urges all residents to prepare for dangerously cold temperatures and potentially icy conditions over the next several days.



🌡️ FORECAST SNAPSHOT

Tonight:
• Single-digit lows
• Wind chills near zero

Weekend:
• 10–20° below normal temps
• Highs in the 30s • Lows near 20°

Monday:
• Highs in the mid-20s
• Lows back into the single digits

Tuesday:
• Slight warm-up • Highs return to the 30s

Heating & Home Safety

✔️ Test/inspect all heating devices
