No need to ask SAR, we weren’t rescuing anyone (although we were searching). This was an arrest of a person that Mammoth Lakes Police Department was looking for.

We reached out to the Mono County Sheriff's Office due to a post on Butt-Hurt Owens Valley. They cannot at this time discuss an active operation. We will continue to try and find answers as they become available.

Today, Investigator Flores was honored with the Life-saving Award/Medal during the Board of Supervisors meeting, presented by Sheriff Braun. He received this accolade for his swift decision-making, prompt actions, and readiness to place himself in danger to assist his community during the Pack fire that occurred on 11/13/2025.

Deputy Pelichowski is also set to receive the Life-Saving Award/Medal; however, he was unavailable at the time. He will be awarded in the near future.

The Lifesaving Award is a distinguished honor bestowed upon individuals who have demonstrated remarkable bravery and quick thinking in life-threatening circumstances. This award recognizes those who have selflessly risked their own safety to save another's life. Whether it involves rescuing someone from a fire, administering CPR to a drowning victim, or any other heroic act, recipients of the Lifesaving Award exemplify true courage and compassion. It serves as a testament to the profound impact one individual can have on another's life and encourages others to be ready to respond in emergencies.

Effective May 1, 2026, CAL FIRE San Bernardino Unit will suspend all residential burn permits within State Responsibility Areas due to increasing fire danger and seasonal conditions.

This suspension helps reduce wildfire risk as temperatures rise, fuels continue to dry, and conditions become more susceptible to rapid fire spread.

Outdoor burning of landscape debris is no longer allowed during this period.

Residents are encouraged to remain vigilant, maintain defensible space, and utilize alternative methods for vegetation disposal.

Work zones aren’t just construction sites; they’re active workplaces. This is Work Zone Awareness Week, do your part to keep crews and drivers safe.

• Slow down and follow posted speed limits
• Stay alert and avoid distractions
• Leave extra space between vehicles
• Be prepared for sudden stops or lane shifts

California law requires drivers to move over or slow down when approaching highway workers and emergency crews. If you can’t safely move over a lane, slow down.

⚠️🚤New ordinances in Mono and Inyo Counties now require mandatory inspections for all trailered watercraft before launch. Boaters must stop at an official WID station and receive an inspection sticker before launching.

Why this matters:
Golden mussels are not here yet—and that’s exactly the point. Once introduced, they cannot be removed. They spread easily, reproduce rapidly, and can permanently damage our lakes, fisheries, infrastructure, and local economy.

This is a serious, region-wide effort and we need your help.

Businesses and partners play a critical role in preventing introduction:
👉Share inspection requirements with customers - ideally before they visit
👉Direct visitors to WID stations
👉Promote Clean, Drain, Dry practices

✅ Prevention is our only option, and it will take all of us working together to prevent the introduction of this destructive aquatic invasive species (AIS).
