Last night we did a joint training with and which combined a structure fire scenario with patient care/helicopter loading. Our firefighters responded to a “structure fire” with a burn patient, our trusty training dummy Dan. Dan was eventually swapped out for one of our engineers who got to go on a quick sunset flight over Bridgeport.

Thank you as always to for flying down to help make our training 100x more realistic (and exciting)! We see these guys on a regular basis as one of our primary air resources for incidents, but we must be helicopter nerds because watching them fly never gets old.

Our new eye in the sky - Bridgeport Fire just started a drone program, thanks to the California Fire Foundation who generously funded this awesome Autel Robotics Enterprise Thermal Imaging drone.

It can fly up to 7 miles and has a 40 minute flight time. We will use it for wildland fire aerial surveillance, safety/situational awareness, and searches. Its thermal capabilities make it unbeatable for hotspot and thermal detection. We’ve also promoted three firefighters to “pilots,” and they’ll spend this summer training on drone operation.

Thank you again to the California Fire Foundation for supporting our department and safety in what is likely to be an active fire season.

Last night, we had an unexpected visit from one of our cherished community members, who stopped by training just to say thanks and drop off a very generous donation. In the spirit of starting off a new year, we just wanted to say thank you to all the residents, business owners, and visitors who support us. Our Firefighters Association does fundraisers throughout the spring and summer, but a random gift like this is a reminder that our community is still thinking of us even when it’s cold, things are slow, and we don’t have any excitement going on. Benny is just one example of the many people who have donated money, time, raffle items, or even dinner on a random training night. Thank you to Benny and everyone else who supports us for your generosity, no matter the time of year!

Time to get out the snow boots! Winter showed up in full force, so we swapped off road tires for tracks on our RRV. Our response area includes winter recreation areas and remote residences, and now we will be able to get to them if needed. On that note, if you are going to be enjoying snowy outdoor activities, please be aware of rapidly changing conditions and avalanche risk, which is still extremely high due to the type of weather we’ve experienced in the last few weeks. 🚁 You know it’s going to be a good training when the moulage kit comes out and a helicopter shows up! We used the small break in the weather to do an awesome extrication training with and last night. Even though cutting up a car and smashing windows is always exciting, this time we focused on patient care, packaging, and simulated transport via helicopter in combination with extrication techniques, as it’s common for us to fly patients who are involved in serious car accidents. Thank you to our brave fake patients, Battleborn, and Mono County EMS for making the trip for this training exercise! We will continue utilizing this generously donated vehicle for future extrication trainings so stay tuned.

Our Burgers, Beers, and Bags Co****le Tournament was a hit! Corngratulations to the winning team, “The Baggers” who can now say they shucked 13 other corntenders to win the corniest trophy in Mono County. Based on all the smiles in these a-maize-ing photos from twrmedia.co everyone had a great time.

Corny jokes aside, we want to thank everyone who showed up for the event and supported us, especially all the businesses and individuals who donated such generous raffle items. This was our first year doing the raffle, and based on the amount of tickets we sold it was a huge success! We couldn’t have done it all without Rose and Jim at , who provided all the aiming fluid and did an amazing job organizing and hosting as usual.

FYI - we still have plenty of the new shirts and now sweatshirts for sale! Please send us a message to purchase locally.
