Safe, reliable, and affordable housing is the foundation of a strong and thriving community.

To highlight this important issue, the Mono County Board of Supervisors has officially designated May 2026 as Affordable Housing Month. As our region continues to grow and evolve, we recognize the pressing need for housing solutions that support our local workforce, families, and seniors.

This proclamation serves as a reminder of our ongoing commitment to advocating for, planning, and developing housing options that make it possible for residents to live and work right here in the Eastern Sierra.

WILDFIRE PREPAREDNESS WEEK: Grant Application Period Now Open

As California recognizes Wildfire Preparedness Week, Governor Gavin Newsom has announced up to $70 million in grant funding for wildfire prevention and resilience projects statewide — supporting efforts to reduce wildfire risk, strengthen forest health, and protect communities.

Grant applications are now open, with completed applications due by 3:00 p.m. on July 8, 2026.

CAL FIRE’s Wildfire Prevention Grants Program provides financial support for projects that reduce the potential for destructive wildfire in and around communities. Eligible activities include hazardous fuels reduction, wildfire prevention planning, and wildfire prevention education aimed at increasing readiness and reducing wildfire ignition potential. Projects that also deliver carbon-reduction benefits will receive additional consideration.

For communities like Mono County, continued investment in wildfire prevention, forest management, defensible space, and emergency preparedness remains critically important. Residents are encouraged to stay informed, create emergency plans, and sign up for emergency alerts through READY Mono.
