At the September 8th Bridgeport Borough Council Meeting, Tanya Bandy was sworn in as the Borough's newest crossing guard.

Tanya is a Bridgeport resident, with deep ties to the region. She is excited to serve her local community and shares her commitment to public safety with her daughter, a 911 Supervisor for Montgomery County.

As a crossing guard, Ms. Bandy will work part-time on mornings and afternoons throughout the school year to ensure local kids make it safely to Bridgeport Elementary.

Please join us in welcoming Tanya to the team! And if you see her out on duty, don't forget to congratulate her...and follow her traffic directions.

Today, the Borough joins its residents in remembering and reflecting on the lives lost on September 11, 2001.

We are thankful for the first responders who bravely responded that day, including those in our own community.

And we invite our community members to join us in honoring the 25th anniversary by attending our 9/11 Remembrance, today from 5:30-6:30 pm at Bridgeport Memorial Park (near the Cpl. John H. Todd III Memorial Playground).

SCHOOL BUS SAFETY REMINDER

With the new school year underway, we want to remind everyone about one of the most important rules on the road: STOP FOR SCHOOL BUSES.

When a school bus has its red lights flashing and stop arm extended, you MUST stop.

Our local school buses are now equipped with the BusPatrol camera system, which is designed to identify and document vehicles that illegally pass stopped school buses.

Unfortunately, during just the first week of school, five violations have already been documented involving drivers failing to stop for a school bus displaying its flashing red lights and stop arm.

Five violations in one week is five times too many. These laws exist for one reason, which is to protect our students.

Please slow down, pay attention, and give school buses the space they need. A few extra seconds of patience could prevent a tragedy.

UPDATE: ALL ROADS ARE NOW OPEN.

Due to a large fire in the 1000 block of Dekalb Street, Dekalb Street will be closed in both directions from Ford Street to West Fourth until further notice. Please avoid the area.

We will provide updates once the roadway opens.

Thank you to everyone who came out and made Bridgeport National Night Out 2026 such a special evening.
