On June 29, 2026, Escambia County Deputies responded to a residence on Atmosphere Road in reference to a shots fired disturbance. After arriving on scene, it was determined that a suspect had discharged a firearm and continued to make threats of violence towards neighbors and law enforcement. The suspect had barricaded himself inside his residence with a firearm and refused to surrender to law enforcement. The Escambia County SWAT Team was activated along with negotiators. During negotiations, the suspect refused to come out and continued to make threats. After negotiations failed, an armored vehicle was utilized to approach the front of the house to make contact at the front door. The suspect exited the rear with a shotgun. The suspect was ordered to surrender and the use of less lethal equipment was unsuccessful. The suspect raised his firearm and pointed it at law enforcement causing the suspect to be fatally injured by gunfire. Life saving measures were attempted with no success.
As in any officer involved shooting, The State Bureau of Investigation was contacted and the investigation was turned over to them for a thorough investigation and review. Any media requests should be directed to SBI.
