Today we proudly celebrate Juneteenth, a day that calls all of us to reflect on and honor our nation’s foundational principles of justice, freedom, and equality.

On June 19, 1865, nearly two and a half years after President Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation, more than 250,000 enslaved people in Texas were finally granted their freedom.

We hope you’ll join us in recognizing this important day in American history by attending one the community celebrations held at the Mary C. Jenkins Community Center and Silversteen Park this weekend: https://www.cityofbrevard.com/m/newsflash/home/detail/942

You know what they say: when one road closes, another culvert opens!

Cashiers Valley Road will close to vehicle traffic between Oakdale Street and Hillview Avenue beginning on June 23 as crews begin repair work on the Hillview Avenue culvert that was damaged during Hurricane Helene. The project will involve an alternating set of closures between Cashiers Valley and Hillview over the next couple of months.

Anticipated closure dates are expected to run as follows:
• Cashiers Valley closed June 23 - June 29
• Hillview Street closed June 29 - July 3
• Cashiers Valley closed July 5 - Aug 10
• Hillview Street closed in mid-August

The street is calm tonight.
The cans are full, the moon lies fair
Upon the curbs; from the trucks men alight,
Come and are gone; bins of recycling stand,
Empty now, early, uncommon for Wednesday.
Go to the website, the schedule is there!
Only, upon the holiday
When the service pauses as planned,
Listen! you hear no grating roar
Or squealing, the brakes squeaking as they sing,
At their retreat, or rattling cans.
But soon after it will again begin,
With vigorous cadence quick, and bring
The incessant stream of refuse in.

As always, the full (prose) holiday sanitation schedule is available on our website: https://www.cityofbrevard.com/m/newsflash/Home/Detail/938

The French Broad River Metropolitan Planning Organization and the Land of Sky Regional Council want YOU . . . to provide feedback on transportation projects being considered in our area!

This survey is part of the prioritization process the State uses to help decide which transportation projects move forward to receive funding.

Not sure about some of the projects? Don’t sweat it! You do not need to provide input on every project. Feel free to scan through the list and respond to the projects you care most about.

Your feedback will help identify which projects are strongly supported, which raise concerns, and which fall somewhere in between. While this survey is not a vote, it is an important opportunity to help local decision-makers understand community priorities before projects advance further in the funding process. (Projects are scored and ranked based on factors like safety, congestion, local priority, and COMMUNITY INPUT.)

The French Broad River MPO is asking for public input on transportation projects being considered in this round of prioritization. Prioritization is the process North Carolina uses to help decide which transportation projects should move forward toward funding. Projects are scored and ranked based o...
