Labor Day didn’t start as a day off. It started as a fight.
In 1882, 10,000 workers marched through New York City demanding fair wages, safer jobs, and a workday that didn’t run people into the ground. It took over a decade of organizing before Congress made it a federal holiday in 1894.
That fight isn’t finished. Living wages, affordable healthcare, safe workplaces, the right to organize — these aren’t settled questions in Transylvania County or anywhere else. They’re decided by who we elect.
This Labor Day, take a minute to learn the history — then think about what kind of future you want to vote for. Democrats up and down the ballot are running to make sure the people doing the work actually share in what it builds.
