Labor Day didn’t start as a day off. It started as a fight.

In 1882, 10,000 workers marched through New York City demanding fair wages, safer jobs, and a workday that didn’t run people into the ground. It took over a decade of organizing before Congress made it a federal holiday in 1894.

That fight isn’t finished. Living wages, affordable healthcare, safe workplaces, the right to organize — these aren’t settled questions in Transylvania County or anywhere else. They’re decided by who we elect.

This Labor Day, take a minute to learn the history — then think about what kind of future you want to vote for. Democrats up and down the ballot are running to make sure the people doing the work actually share in what it builds.

A candidate of, by, and for the people!

Jamie Ager for Congress has been talking to people across WNC for months, listening to what they need, and what thier struggles are.

When we send him to DC as our next Representative he will work hard for the people of WNC, not the politicians in DC. WNC has had a string of really bad Representatives (rememebr Meadows and Cawthorn?), and they deserve better! Let's end the games and send someone to DC who will listen to you, and out in the work to address the serious issues we face.

This November vote Ager!

Strong fundraising and the House’s 413-2 censure on Tuesday of outgoing Rep. Chuck Edwards bolster Democrats’ chances in historically Republican district. Democrat Jamie Ager now faces state Rep. Jennifer Balkcom of Henderson County, the Republican chosen to replace Edwards on the ballot. With i...

A last minute change by the Republican controlled Board of Elections changes the rules for mail-in ballots! If you have requested a mail-in ballot, check and double check the rules! Don't let the Republicans steal your vote by changing the rules.

If you have any questions talk to the Transylvania County Election Center!

This is an unbridled baselss assault on the right to vote in our country and it's shameful that Republicans here in North Carolina have chosen to not serve We The People.

“North Carolina voters deserve transparency in their elections, not last-minute workarounds that could keep their vote from counting,” said Governor Josh Stein, a Democrat, in a statement. “I will continue to stand up for voters’ access to the ballot box.”

Vote for candidates that will protect your right to vote!

Vote Roy Cooper, Jamie Ager for Congress, Tom Downing for NC Senate, Mark Burrows for NC House, Owen Carson , and O’Neill for County Commission!

The changes are almost certain to cause some votes to be tossed. They come at a time when President Trump is promoting false claims of widespread fraud in mail voting.

The courts are once again standing for the Constitution in the face of illegal, and unconstitutional, restrictions on your right to vote!

This is federal overreach and an attack on the right to vote.

“Having considered this series of hurdles for officials against the backdrop of an impending election, and mindful of the fact that any minor malfunction will result in the denial of mail ballots, the court concludes that disenfranchisement for plaintiff organizations’ members, regardless of residence, is practically inevitable,” Judge Talwani wrote.

The ruling arrived before the Supreme Court could decide whether to intervene but appeared certain to set off yet another round of appeals.

Where is the other $60 million for our schools❓💰

Transylvania County voters passed a school bond in 2018. 9,3013 of you voted yes, 59.7 percent. 🗳️

Eight long years later the work is still being sorted out. COVID drove costs up, the plan was rebuilt into a package worth more than $90 million, and commissioners approved that revised version in September 2024. Eight years after you approved the funding, a delay which cost us $15 million in spending power.

The County's own study shows that over $120 million is needed to complete all work to being our schools up to par. That is not improvements, just to get them to where they SHOULD have been. The passed bonds cover just over $60 million, but where is the other $60 million? This is yet another capital need the Commission is ignoring, and by the time they get to thinking about it the cost will only increase. Their delay has already cost you $15 million, how much more will you pay for their delay?

Your kids' roofs are a priority. Our school facilities are a priority. We need leaders that agree.

Bonnie Kelley and John Lanier are running for the Board of Education. Owen Carson and Bryan O'Neill are running for the commission that funds it.

Vote for leaders that can get it done.
