Thank You, Officer King!

Last night, the Brentwood Union School District Board of Education proudly recognized School Resource Officer King for his outstanding service, dedication, and commitment to our students, staff, and school community.

Throughout his time with BUSD, Officer King has built meaningful relationships, provided guidance and support to students, and helped foster safe and welcoming learning environments across our schools. His professionalism, leadership, and genuine care for our community have made a lasting impact.

While we will miss his daily presence on our campuses, we are excited to congratulate him on his well-deserved promotion to Sergeant. We thank him for his years of service to Brentwood Union School District and wish him continued success in this next chapter of his career.

What happens when students get a front-row seat to growing their own food? Amazing things!

Just over a month ago, Isaac Montañez Elementary and the Food Service Department introduced a Fork Farms hydroponic growing system to the cafeteria. The Flex Farm allows fresh produce to be grown indoors year-round using significantly less water than traditional farming while providing students with a unique hands-on learning experience.

From day one, students were part of the journey. They helped name the system "B.O.B." (Best Organic Buddy), watched the plants grow each day during meal service, and recently had the opportunity to harvest the fresh produce themselves.

One of the greatest benefits of the hydroponic system is that students can see the entire growing process—from seedling to harvest—right inside their school. It creates meaningful connections to nutrition, agriculture, sustainability, and healthy eating while bringing fresh produce directly to the cafeteria.

The harvest was put to good use! Fresh cilantro was featured in a lime, pineapple, cilantro, and Tajín side dish that students loved, while the romaine lettuce was served in fresh side salads and on chicken sandwiches.

A special thank you to the Isaac Montañez Café team for nurturing the plants, engaging students throughout the process, and creating an unforgettable farm-to-cafeteria experience. We can't wait to see what B.O.B. grows next!

Huge congratulations to the Brentwood Elementary Odyssey of the Mind team as they represented our school and community at the World Finals Tournament at Iowa State University!

It is with deep sadness that we share the passing of former Brentwood Union School District Superintendent Dr. J. Douglas Adams, the namesake of Adams Middle School. Doug was a foundational figure in Brentwood education whose leadership, vision, and commitment to students helped shape our district and community for generations of students. A proud graduate of Brentwood schools and Liberty High School, he dedicated his life to serving students, families, and educators. During his 17 years as superintendent, BUSD grew from three schools serving 1,400 students to ten schools serving more than 8,000 students. We are deeply grateful to Doug’s family for sharing him with this community for so many years, and we extend our heartfelt thoughts and condolences to them during this difficult time.

Today, we celebrated the ribbon-cutting for the grand opening of the new satellite kitchen at Bristow Middle School! This new space will help shorten breakfast and lunch lines and support the continued service of fresh, high-quality meals to more students.

Huge congratulations to our Destination Imagination team at Adams Middle School for their creativity, innovation, and teamwork! 🎉👏 Students created an original game show performance and built props like a Lie Detector, Scoreboard, & SkyVault using Arduino Uno microcontrollers! 🤖💡
