Have you noticed any changes with the Beech trees on your property? Beach leaf disease is caused by a microscopic nematode that feeds and overwinters in buds, causing damage that is visible in the Spring. Beech trees usually die 3-6 years after infestation. Best management strategies for Beech vary, and landowners are encouraged to contact the county forester through UNH Cooperative Extension Forestry and Wildlife Program for assistance.

Learn more about Beech leaf disease here:

Beech leaf disease is a relatively recent arrival to the forests of New Hampshire and has been spreading quickly throughout the southern half of the state. Learn more about how to recognize this new forest health concern and what we know about it.

Planting native species in your yard supports pollinators, birds, and local ecosystems.

Native plants are adapted to New Hampshire’s climate, meaning:
✔️ Less watering
✔️ No fertilizers needed
✔️ More wildlife benefits

We are so lucky to have a variety of places to purchase native plants right here in Brentwood: MEB Library plant sale, Wellington Gardens, and Stout Oak Farm to name a few. Consider adding native plants to your landscape this season!
