We had another outstanding 'Flourishing with Friends' session this Tuesday despite the threat of thunderstorms. Our group was smaller than usual, and some of our regular volunteers had conflicts, so they were unable to join us; however, we were able to get some help from other wonderful volunteers. Everyone enjoyed having their coffee and visiting with their friends and our volunteers, as always, to start our day.
Our crafts this morning were designed and coordinated by Windy Comer, who provided special flag name tags for everyone and all of the craft supplies. She had beautiful red, blue and silver cut outs and coordinating cellophane paper for the Friends and volunteers to work with and put together. Everyone enjoyed Windy’s enthusiasm and doing the craft.
We had an outstanding lunch from Bush’s Chicken with fruit and cookies for dessert provided by Kruse Village and delivered by Amy and Lily Supak. Our volunteer, Brandon, commented that he heard several people say that this was their favorite lunch so far. We so appreciate Amy and Lily bringing food for us and love that they joined us for crafts and lunch.
Our regular “Move and Groove” volunteer wasn’t able to be with us so we had to improvise. We put some 50’s & 60’s music on and played the “balloon game”. I think folks got some great exercise hitting and chasing the balloons. There was a lot of laughter as balloons were punched and tossed back and forth to each other. When a few Friends commented that they were getting tired, we stopped and let our volunteer, Ann take over. She had the idea of doing the “Hokey Pokey” so she played the music on her phone and everyone danced along. It was something that we all knew from childhood so it was really fun.
While we were engaged in exercise, our friend, Emma from Brenham Pet Adoption Center arrived with two adorable older beagles. They were 16 and 12 years old but you would never know it. They were so sweet and both were available for adoption. Everyone loved on them and we even let them off of their leashes to allow them to walk around Fellowship Hall during our music program. Ginger from Harmony Hearts stopped by to see if we needed anything and fell in love with them. Our Friends and volunteers always love their time with the dogs.
As always, we ended our day with a great music show. Today we had an amazing singer and tenor sax player, Jack Carr. He sang and played a lot of swing and jazz songs. Some dating back to the 1920’s and others more current but he told the story of the song before he began singing it. We have never had anyone like him before and he was excellent. Everyone seemed to really enjoy it.
