What great community we live in. The response to this fire was overwhelming. More drinks and snacks than we could use, meals, support, and most importanly the prayers for safety. Two homes were saved along with some other structures. One truck was lost. A couple of firefighters were treated for heat, but it apprars there were no injuries.

The Bufford Creek Fire has burned approximately 3,240 acres and is 75 percent contained. TIFMAS, TAMFS, and local resources completed burn operations. State resources are patrolling lines tonight. Local resources have returned to service and will return in the morning to tie in with State assets.
UPDATE 5:30 PM 8/11/26
The fire has burned approximately 3,065 acres and is 75 percent contained. TAMFS and TIFMAS are conducting burnouts on a contingency line to slow the progression with local resources. Containment dropped from 90 percent to 75 percent, but a helicopter is back on site and gaining containment.

I love our community. The massive response with prayers, trailers, and places for livestock reminds me that it is not where we live, but who we live with that makes our community a great place.

STATEMENT OF EMERGENCY — STEPHENS COUNTY, TEXAS

At approximately 1:00 p.m. today, a wildfire ignited approximately five miles north of Breckenridge along Highway 67. The fire is spreading rapidly and moving north and has crossed FM 1800. With winds out of the south expected to increase in the coming hours, conditions are anticipated to worsen.
Six fire departments are currently on scene, along with EMS personnel and the Texas A&M Forest Service, who is providing both air and ground support. At last report by the Texas A & M Forest Service, The Bufford Creek Fire is at 300 acres with 0% containment (Texas A&M Forest Service Incident Viewer!)
Pursuant to Chapter 418 of the Texas Government Code, I am hereby declaring a local state of disaster for Stephens County due to imminent threat from wildfire. This declaration activates the county's emergency management plan, authorizes you to invoke mutual aid agreements and request assistance from other jurisdictions and the state, and gives you authority under § 418.108(f)-(g) to control ingress/egress in the disaster area and, if needed, order evacuations.
Residents in the area north and west of the Highway 67 corridor should remain alert, monitor your phone, HyperReach, and local media outlets. Be prepared to evacuate if directed by emergency personnel. Please avoid the area to keep roadways clear for responding units.
