It's no surpsie that Fire Danger in Summit County has reached VERY HIGH! We can't say this enough and will continue to ask for your cooperation in staying vigilant about preventing fires. It is now critical for us ALL to do our part and keep each other safe.

Summit County's wildfire danger has reached VERY HIGH..

Last week's wind and the lack of significant rain on Sunday was the tipping point for Summit County. Grass that was green and lush at the beginning of last week was crunchy by the weekend, which for Summit County is a really fast transformation. The lack of soil moisture ultimately means that we don't have any resiliency or buffering to keep us out of critical fire-danger levels when the wind blows and the relative humidity goes down.

We urge all of our residents and visitors to use caution with any source of heat or flame near vegetation. We also urge everyone to take action, clear and maintain the space around your home or building. The first five feet is critical. And we can't stress this enough: Sign up for Summit County Alert, a free text- or e-mail emergency-messaging service, at www.scalert.org, and be prepared to evacuate if there is a fire nearby.

Breckenridge Police Department Concludes Investigation into the Death of Oscar J. Mendez Dominguez

BRECKENRIDGE, CO – Following a thorough investigation conducted in coordination with the Summit County Coroner’s Office and the 5th Judicial District Attorney’s Office, the Breckenridge Police Department has concluded its investigation into the death of Oscar J. Mendez Dominguez.
Based on the investigation and autopsy findings, it has been determined that no criminal charges will be filed in this case. The autopsy concluded that Mr. Dominguez’s death was the result of a combination of alcohol intoxication and prolonged exposure to extreme cold temperatures.
During the investigation, detectives learned that Mr. Dominguez had been involved in a mutual physical altercation with an acquaintance prior to his death. Investigators carefully reviewed all available evidence, witness statements, and the autopsy findings. The investigation determined that while the altercation did occur, both individuals walked away independently of one another.
Further, the investigation found that Mr. Dominguez did not sustain any injuries during the altercation that contributed to or caused his death.
The Breckenridge Police Department extends its appreciation to the Summit County Coroner’s Office, the 5th Judicial District Attorney’s Office, and members of the community who provided information during the investigation.
