Breaux Bridge – On May 14 in Veteran’s Park here a memorial will be unveiled honoring elite unconventional warriors including the U.S. Army’s Special Forces and Rangers, Navy SEALs, Marine Recon Battalions and the Air Force’s Air Commandos.

Gov. Bobby Jindal, in proclaiming May 14 Special Operations Day in Louisiana, acknowledged the special connection Breaux Bridge has had with unconventional warfare dating back to the early days of World War II, when Col. Shirley Ray Trumps and Maj. Sam Broussard joined the Office of Strategic Services, the OSS. Since then, hundreds of local veterans have served in special operations units of the U.S. armed forces.
