We are always happy to see students stepping up to share ways we can improve things for our community. Here is a great example of that and an announcement that was read at the end of our school day today. ๐๐ป
Good afternoon Bears,
My name is Eason, and on behalf of the Student Advisory committee, or SAC, I would like to briefly let you all know that this year we are taking composting, and recycling very seriously, especially during the lunch period. Some of you may have noticed that during A-lunch I have been making sure people put their lunch scraps in the correct bins. I do this in hopes that we can improve because as of right now, we are lacking, and Iโve even seen some put metal forks and spoons in the trash which just isnโt acceptable. Last year, every month or two, the lunch faculty had to buy 2 to 300 new metal utensils because of how much went in the trash. Additionally, a lot of trash ended up in the compost containers. This can cost our local solid waste organization a lot of time and money to sort out...that's our tax dollars being used up! We can be the champions for a cleaner environment if we work together.
I want to start this year right, and if we can compost, and recycle correctly, in the near future we may be able to spend more money on chocolate milk during lunch. There will hopefully be signs going up in the next few days to help dictate where materials go, but for now I simply ask that you all do your best to be mindful of where you put your trash and compost, so that not only can we save money, but perhaps even more importantly, we can maintain a cleaner environment and BUHS can set the example for the rest of Vermont schools to follow.
Thank you, and GO bears.
