The Brattleboro Area Youth Council is seeking new members!

The Youth Council advocates for their peers and collaborates with community decision-makers to address the needs of youth.

We welcome youth ages 11+ and have approx. 9 openings for Fall 2026.

Approved applications that are completed by 5/31 will be invited to our retreat on Saturday 6/6. Later applications will be reviewed in early August.

Funding proposals:

Bake-Off Competition for 69A ElliotA
Community event where NEYT mentors host a British Baking Show–style competition while collecting and donating food (soup, bread, non-perishables) to 69A Elliot. Combines fun with direct food support for those in need.

PeaceJam Kid Bikes & Repairs
Focuses on collecting, fixing, and giving away kids’ bikes for free. Expands access to transportation, outdoor activity, and bike learning for children, especially those who might not otherwise have the opportunity.

Dance Performance- New England Youth Dance Project
A youth-led dance show featuring original choreography by local teens. Builds performance and collaboration skills while raising awareness and support for Groundworks and/or Winston Prouty Family Shelter.

Brattleboro Neighborhood News
A quarterly, student-led newspaper sharing stories of both housed and unhoused community members. Provides youth journalism experience while highlighting local voices and community issues.

Safe Syringe Disposal Services for Green Up Day – May 2 (8:00 AM–12:00 PM)

Green Up Day is back, bringing communities across Vermont together to clean up roadsides and public spaces.

🚨 Important Safety Update 🚨
This year, the Community Substance Use Response (CSUR) and the AIDS Project is offering free syringe disposal pick-up services on Green Up Day in Windham County.

If you encounter a used syringe:
❌ Do NOT handle it with bare hands
❌ Do NOT place it in trash or recycling
📞 Call the AIDS Project at **(802) 490-6667** for safe, confidential disposal

This service is also available year-round in Windham County through the AIDS Project.
