If you see a bunch of cops running down the road on Friday, don't worry—we're not late for roll call. We're carrying the Flame of Hope. 🔥

On June 5th, law enforcement officers from across Connecticut will lace up their running shoes and carry the Flame of Hope during the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics Connecticut. The Torch Run is the largest grassroots fundraiser and public awareness event supporting Special Olympics athletes, helping provide year-round sports training, competition, and opportunities for thousands of athletes across the state.

As the torch makes its way through communities across Connecticut, we invite you to come out, cheer on the runners, wave hello, and help support an incredible cause. Every mile run represents a commitment to inclusion, determination, and the remarkable athletes of Special Olympics Connecticut.

This past Saturday we teamed up with the Guilford Police Department and North Branford Police Department to host our first ever “Traffic Stop Practice for Newly Licensed Drivers” event. New drivers and their parents learned all about what to do (and what not to do) when getting pulled over, possible outcomes of a traffic stop, what to do if you’re involved in a traffic crash, and about CT’s Blue, Green, and Yellow Envelope Programs. The teen drivers then got the chance to experience “mock” traffic stops in the parking lot of Guilford High School, where officers “pulled them over” to demonstrate how a traffic stop plays out in real life.

Everyone who participated expressed how helpful and educational this program was, and we hope to host another one of these events in the future! Thank you to all the teens and their parents who came out to spend a very windy and rainy Saturday morning with Officer Abely from Branford Police, Officer Gingras and Officer Harkins from Guilford Police, and Officer Cunningham from North Branford Police.

Also, a huge shoutout to the CT Chiefs of Police Association, CT Department of Transportation, National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, and CT Department of Motor Vehicles for creating this program and making it available for police departments throughout the state to implement!
