In recognition of Arbor Day and Town of Branford, CT's 16th year as a Tree City USA, the Public Works Department was honored to plant an elm tree outside of Blackstone Library! We were joined by members of the James Blackstone Memorial Library, the Green Committee, the Community Forest Commission AND our guest of honor, Coco from Dan Cosgrove Animal Shelter who is the sweetest, snuffliest, goofball we've ever met! It is so very hard to believe she is still up for adoption. She has an easy-going, goofy disposition and seeks pets and love from everyone she meets. If you think Coco might be the perfect friend for you, fill out and application and reach out to Dan Cosgrove Animal Shelter!

Thank you to all involved in our celebration! Spring planting is officially underway!

Update: 3:03pm Roadway is Open

Original Post: We received a report of a water main break near Shoreline Cafe and Catering on Main Street. There are multiple road closures while crews are working to fix the issue. Police and Fire Department are on scene assisting with traffic. Please avoid the area.

⚠️🚧 Most of the snow has fallen. What happens now? 🚧⚠️

Winds pushed much of what was plowed overnight back onto roads creating difficult conditions. Crews will continue to prioritize main roads and assisting Branford Police and Fire, then move outward through neighborhoods. Plow drivers will cut a single pass through roads first and then return to cut back to curbs.

Help our drivers by moving cars out of the street and staying out of the way of plows. Clear sidewalks and hydrants and do not snow blow or shovel aprons into the street. With this much snow accumulation, drifts and windrows are high everywhere.

Please keep in mind that with small amounts of snow a plow route takes approximately three hours per pass. This event will require longer time between passes, and we appreciate your patience and consideration for our drivers. The notes and phone calls supporting the drivers of DPW do not go unnoticed. Thank you!

🚧 Crews have been working through the night and will continue to do so throughout the storm and after. Road and weather conditions have created difficult travel, please stay off the roads and clear of plows and first responders.🚧

⚠️🚧As we look ahead to more winter weather this weekend, please see the following reminders to help our Public Works crews operate safely and efficiently:

- Remove vehicles from roadways during snow events to allow plows full access to clear streets curb-to-curb. If you must use street parking, only park on the ODD side of the street.
- Do not shovel, blow, or plow snow into the roadway. This creates hazardous conditions and is prohibited.
- Keep trash and recycling bins out of the street.
- Clear a path to fire hydrants near your property if you are able.
-Branford and surrounding municipalities are dealing with a salt shortage. The crews will continue to prioritize heavily traveled roads for sand/salt treatment. Residents are advised to travel cautiously as treatment levels may be affected.
- Give plow trucks plenty of space. Do not follow closely or attempt to pass.
-Be patient. Each plow route takes approximately 3 hours to complete. Crews will continue working throughout the duration of the storm and will return to widen and treat roads as needed.

Thank you for your cooperation and for helping keep our community safe. ⚠️🚧
