"With just four days of work under their belts after the August recess, House speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) today canceled votes for the last two weeks in September, leaving the House with only another four days in Washington between now and the midterms. Leaving town will protect Republicans from having to weigh in on Trump’s wild AI posts that he has won the war in Iran, his threats to sic the Federal Communications Commission on journalists who report his tanking job approval ratings, or his claims that the economy is thriving."

Rankin County voters: don’t overlook our judicial races on the ballot this November!

Voters often focus on the legislative and executive branches while overlooking the judiciary. Judges interpret and apply laws passed by the Legislature, and their rulings can set precedent—making a strong judicial branch essential to a strong government.

Rankin County Chancery Court — Place 1
Candidates:
▪️Bo Agnew
▪️Keri Carroll
▪️Michael Wolfe
Chancery Court handles matters such as family law, divorces, child custody, adoptions, estates, guardianships, and disputes involving land and equity.

20th Circuit Court District — Place 1
Candidates:
▪️Sarah Butler
▪️Scott Gilbert
▪️Carter Smith
Circuit Court is a trial court of general jurisdiction that handles felony criminal cases, major civil lawsuits, and appeals from lower courts such as justice and municipal courts.

Election Details:
These races are decided by majority vote. If no candidate receives over 50%, the top two advance to a runoff. Turnout in runoffs often drops significantly, meaning a small number of voters can determine the outcome.

Bottom Line:
Learn the six names. Review their experience, qualifications, courtroom background, temperament, and judicial philosophy.

Judicial candidates should not be the names we skip at the bottom of the ballot.
November 3, 2026, is GO time Rankin County!

Today is a good day to check!

Mississippi's SHIELD Act went into effect on July 1.
Now, thousands of registered voters are being purged from voter rolls. You need to check and make sure you are still registered. *CONFIRM YOUR VOTER REGISTRATION AND PRECINCT LOCATION* with your county Circuit Clerk's office, and recheck periodically between now and Election Day.
If you have been purged, you will have to go to the Circuit Clerk‘s Office and re-register.

Reasons someone might be purged? Most common is that official mail (like a jury summons or voter registration card) was returned or unanswered. After that, if you did not vote in two Federal Elections, you were purged.

FYI: Often, people are removed because mail was returned after the address was entered into the system incorrectly by the Circuit Clerk‘s Office.

You can also check your registration status through the MS Secretary of State's website (see link) to make sure you are registered and your address is correct.
