Taking a quick moment to thank everyone for coming out to our Pork Loin supper on Saturday!! We love seeing our community come together and support us so we can support them. Our annual fundraising dinner helps with much needed funding to buy lifesaving equipment as well as updates to already owned equipment.

Also huge thank you to those that allowed us to use their smokers for the increased amount of meat this year! We served approximately 150lbs of pork loin Saturday night!!

On 1/23/26 at approx 8:45pm Brandon Fire was dispatched to the 1000blk of 325th St for a report of the power going out and smoke filling a home. Upon arrival, flames were visible coming from the roof of a rural residential structure. Mutual aid was requested from surrounding departments and an interior crew was sent in for initial knockdown. All residents of the home were confirmed to have made it out.

After mutual aid began arriving, vertical ventilation holes and exterior attack operations began. The extreme cold temperatures of close to -10Β° made it very difficult as hose lines, pumps, and firefighter airpacks were freezing. The particular construction of this home also made it difficult to extinguish due to add-ons and roof/attic layout.

At around 12am the fire was under control and mutual aid was released from the scene. Our portable water tank was also difficult to drain due to the extreme freezing temperatures. After all tools and hose lines were cleaned up, a hot spot between the roof and ceiling flared up requiring more overhaul operations to gain access to the fire and was extinguished using a fire extinguisher. At around 1:15am Brandon Fire gave the all clear to leave the scene 4.5hrs after the incident was reported.

We would like to extend a huge thank you to our mutual aid departments for coming to help bring this fire under control in some of the most difficult temperatures to fight fires. La Porte City Iowa Fire Rescue, Jesup Fire Department, Mount Auburn Fire Department, and Gilbertville Fire Department thank you for all you do!

12/31/2025

On 12/31/25 at approx 0905hrs Brandon Fire & EMS were dispatched to La Porte Rd just west of Dugan Ave for a single vehicle rollover accident with injury. Upon arrival, it was discovered that a single vehicle failed to negotiate a curve and hit the ditchside causing it to roll several times and a single occupant was trapped with severe injuries and extrication tools were needed. Due to the extent of the injuries Lifeguard Air Ambulance was contacted to transport.

Because of the damage to the vehicle and limited space to remove the patient, the roof of the SUV was cut and lifted to allow access and safely remove the occupant. The patient was then loaded into the ground ambulance and moved to the landing zone to be transferred to the helicopter.

Brandon Fire & EMS would like to thank North Benton Ambulance and Buchanan County Sheriff's Office & dispatchers for the joint effort in this response. We will not show the vehicle in this post due to an ongoing investigation.

October is fire safety month! Last week Brandon firefighters explained to kids at the BASH program the importance of knowing fire safety and got to practice using a fire extinguisher with an electronic prop. Thank you to City of Independence Iowa, Fire Department for the use of the training prop!

Remember each October is a perfect time to give your smoke detector a test and change the batteries! Stay safe!

Thank you to North Benton Ambulance for bringing their new A-63 unit up for our training tonight! The ambulance crew responds to our medical, vehicle accident, and even fire calls so working closely with each other requires us to have familiarity with their equipment as well as ours.

A-63 was recently put in service, so tonight was about learning where their equipment is located throughout the rig in the event we need to assist in retrieving equipment or supplies while they are tending to patient care. We also got to see some recent upgrades to their equipment as the medical world continues to evolve.

July 4th is almost upon us! During this time of celebration it is also extra important to practice good safety and awareness when using fireworks πŸ§¨πŸŽ†

Remember to:
βœ…οΈ Have water nearby
βœ…οΈ Never relight a dud
βœ…οΈ Never hold fireworks or aim at flammables
βœ…οΈ Soak any unused fireworks in water before discarding

Fireworks are allowed in the Brandon city limits under the same laws put in place by the state. Please refer to section 41.14 in the code of ordinances found under the "Government" tab at brandoniowa.com for any clarification.
