The Safe Room has approximately 6,500 square feet and is built to FEMA 361 guidelines and is open and run by the Rankin County Sheriff's Department anytime a tornado watch or warning has been issued by the National Weather Service for Rankin County, Mississippi. The Safe Room provides a safe place for citizens during s

evere weather and will remain open until the National Weather Service cancels the tornado watch or warning. Rankin County Safe Room closes immediately following the cancelation and is not a long term shelter nor does the Safe Room provide other services such as meals, drinks or other items. The Rankin County Tornado Safe Room is available for organizations to rent for meetings, training and other functions. However, all rentals may be cancelled due to a tornado watch or warning issued for Rankin County.
