Interested in Sharing Your Voice in the Act 170 Process?

Join a Working Group — Tuesday, September 22

Two sessions will be held at the OVUMHS Library:

• 5:00–7:00 PM
• 7:00–9:00 PM

Each session will include group discussion and breakout sessions where participants can review potential options, share thoughts and concerns, and contribute additional ideas about how our district might engage with the Act 170 process.

A virtual, listen-only option will also be available. For those unable to participate in either format, the Board will host community readouts at a later date.

- Brandon representative
- Whiting representative

The appointed school board members for these seats must be a resident of the respective town and would serve through to the next election in March 2027 at which time they would need to run and be elected to remain on the board.

Letters of Interest can be submitted to the board via email to Melinda Piper at [email protected] and are due by October 1, 2026.

The Board intends to take action to fill the open seats at the OVUU School Board meeting on Tuesday, October 6, 2026 at 6:00 PM at the OVUHS Library.

Your Voice Matters: Help Shape the Future of OVUUSD

Vermont’s new education law, Act 170, creates both opportunities and important decisions for school districts across the state. As enrollment declines and we navigate financial pressures, school facilities, and the long-term needs of our communities, the Otter Valley Unified Union School District is beginning an important conversation about the future of our schools.

No decisions have been made about the future of our schools, and any potential merger would require voter approval. Right now, we want to hear from our communities.

Residents of Brandon, Goshen, Leicester, Pittsford, Sudbury, and Whiting are encouraged to take a few minutes to complete our Act 170 Community Survey and share your priorities, concerns, questions, and vision for the future of our schools. Whether you currently have children in our schools, are a former student or parent, are a taxpayer in one of our towns, or simply care about the future of our schools and communities, your perspective matters.
