🎉 Happy National Intern Day! 🎉

Today we’re proud to recognize Reece Barham, our summer intern and a recent graduate of Hartfield Academy.

This summer, it has been a pleasure investing in Reece as he learned firsthand about the important work of the Rankin County Circuit Clerk’s Office. From our court system and jury operations to marriage licenses, voter registration, elections, and the many responsibilities we handle each day, he has gained valuable hands-on experience in public service.

Reece has jumped in wherever needed—from helping impanel jurors during court proceedings to assisting with our records scanning projects—and has done so with a great attitude and a willingness to learn.

Thank you, Reece, for all of your hard work this summer. We appreciate your dedication and wish you the very best as you begin this exciting new chapter. Your future is bright!

Today, our office had the opportunity to coordinate a tour of the Rankin County Jail for Rankin County Bar Association Law Camp students and interns serving in several county offices. It was an invaluable experience for these young people to see firsthand how another part of county government operates.

A special thank you to Sgt. Lawson and Sgt. Perry for taking the time to explain the booking process and guide us through the facility, giving everyone a better understanding of the day-to-day operations and the important work being done.

Sheriff Bryan Bailey and his staff have done a remarkable job maintaining a facility that is clean, secure, and professionally operated. We are grateful for the men and women of the Rankin County Sheriff’s Office who work every day to protect our community. Their dedication and service often happen behind the scenes, but they never go unnoticed.

Thank you for all you do to keep Rankin County safe!

🇺🇸 I absolutely loved having this great group of friends stop by the Circuit Clerk’s Office this week to register to vote! There’s nothing better than seeing citizens take an active role in our elections.

With Election Day approaching, now is the time to make sure you’re ready!

✅ Register to vote if you are 18 years old.
✅ You can also register if you are 17 now but will be 18 by November 3.
✅ Recently moved? Be sure to update your voter registration with your current address.

Our next election is November 3.

Mississippi law requires you to be registered 30 days before an election, so don’t wait until the last minute.

You can also download a voter registration application and mail it to our office if that’s more convenient. I’ll post the form in the comments below.

Happy Independence Day from the Rankin County Circuit Clerk’s Office!

Our office is closed today, July 3, in observance of Independence Day and will reopen on Monday, July 6, during our regular business hours.

As we celebrate 250 years of American independence, we are reminded of the blessings of liberty, the sacrifices of those who have defended our freedom, and the importance of serving our community with integrity and dedication.

We hope you enjoy a wonderful holiday with family and friends. Please celebrate responsibly, stay safe, and take a moment to reflect on the freedoms we are privileged to enjoy.

There has been some misinformation circulating on social media regarding public access to our courts, and I would like to make sure our citizens have the facts.

The Rankin County Courthouse and all court proceedings that are open by law remain open and accessible to the public.

Recently, questions were raised regarding access to a courtroom hearing. We want to assure our citizens that transparency is a cornerstone of our judicial system, and members of the public are welcome to attend court proceedings unless otherwise restricted by law or court order.

For the safety and security of everyone in the courthouse, all visitors are required to pass through security screening before entering a courtroom. In addition, certain items are prohibited inside courtrooms and courthouse facilities, including:

• Weapons of any kind
• Cell phones
• Smart watches and other electronic communication devices
• Cameras and recording equipment
• Audio or video recording of court proceedings without prior authorization or a court order

These security measures are in place to protect the integrity of court proceedings, ensure compliance with court rules, and provide a safe environment for judges, court personnel, attorneys, litigants, jurors, and members of the public.

Depending on arrival time and the security screening process, court proceedings may begin while visitors are entering the building. This does not mean the courtroom is closed to the public, nor does it mean anyone is being denied access. Individuals who comply with courthouse security requirements are permitted to attend public court proceedings.

Our courthouse staff works diligently to assist every visitor while balancing public access with courthouse security.

The courts belong to the people, and public access to judicial proceedings remains an important part of maintaining trust and confidence in our justice system. We remain committed to transparency, fairness, and equal access under the law.

Serving Our Community Together

Today, staff from the Rankin County Circuit Clerk’s Office had the opportunity to serve alongside the Rankin County Sheriff’s Department and numerous local agencies during D.A.R.E. Funday at the Rankin County Safe Room on Marquette Road.

More than 350 children from 40 local daycares attended this exciting community event, where they received hands-on exposure to the people, equipment, and services that help keep Rankin County safe.

Children had the opportunity to:
• Explore law enforcement vehicles and equipment
• Learn about emergency preparedness from Rankin County Emergency Operations
• Discover how Animal Control helps care for and protect animals
• Sit inside a Brandon Police Department patrol car and make announcements over the PA system
• See drone technology demonstrations used in search-and-rescue operations
• Interact with special character guests
• Visit a petting zoo provided by Crooked Creek Veterinary Clinic featuring dogs, goats, and snakes

Our role was simple but important—helping keep everyone hydrated throughout the morning by serving cold bottled water to the children, teachers, volunteers, and first responders.

It was wonderful to see so many agencies working together to create a fun, educational experience for the children of our community. Thank you to the Rankin County Sheriff’s Department for hosting another successful D.A.R.E. Funday and for investing in the next generation.

It’s Teacher Appreciation Week, and we want to take a moment to say thank you to all of the incredible teachers across Rankin County.

Your dedication, patience, and commitment to our students and community do not go unnoticed. The impact you make reaches far beyond the classroom and influences generations to come.

One of the many reasons families choose to call Rankin County home is because of our outstanding schools and the educators who make them exceptional.

“Thank you” simply does not feel like enough, but we want you to know how deeply appreciated you are for the work you do every single day.

We truly value every opportunity to invest in the next generation by educating our youth and giving them real-life insight into how our court system works.

Today, we had the pleasure of welcoming Ms. Lasonya Anderson, English teacher at West Jones High School, and her class to our courtroom. As part of their study of To Kill a Mockingbird, Ms. Anderson wanted her students to experience a live court proceeding firsthand.

Although the case scheduled for today was resolved before trial, Judge Steve Ratcliff and Staff Attorney Sarah Butler stepped in to help turn today into an incredible learning experience by conducting a mock trial.

Students were assigned roles and actively participated in the courtroom process

They experienced firsthand how a trial operates

Many shared that the reenactment made the experience even more engaging and memorable

In addition to the courtroom experience, our team provided a tour of the Circuit Clerk’s Office, where students learned about the responsibilities of our office and how we support the criminal justice system.

Opportunities like this are invaluable. We are committed to educating our youth—because they are our future—and helping them understand the importance of our judicial system and civic responsibility.
