Today is June 6th, it is the 76th Anniversary of D-Day, the invasion of Europe by the Allied Forces. The United States 82nd and 101st Airborne Divisions along with the British 1st and 6th Airborne Divisions and the Polish Parachute Brigade made the jumps in the early hours of June 6th. Many Gliders landed with glider soldiers and artillery. These landings disrupted and confused the Germans. The paratroopers seized many bridges (including the LaFriere Bridge) which ensured the landing infantry had a way off of the beaches. I am proud that while serving in the 82nd in the 1960's I had many NCO's and Officers who made the D-Day Invasion. They are the men who trained us and prepared us for the combat we were to face. God Bless the Hero's of D-Day! If you live in Louisiana and are "Airborne" contact us about membership (337) 288-2730.
