OGR is match ready!
Our agency oversees $46 million in federal funds awarded to Massachusetts through the FIFA World Cup Grant Program, an additional $21.2 million through the federal Counter-Unmanned Aircraft Systems Grant Program, and $390,000 in state funds distributed through the FIFA World Cup Human Trafficking Supplemental Resources program. We’re working to ensure that every public dollar dedicated to FIFA World Cup security in Massachusetts is used for its intended purpose.

The Office of Grants and Research is proud to play a critical role supporting the safety of all residents and visitors during the FIFA World Cup through our effective management of state and federal security funding. As the State Administering Agency for FEMA grant funds, OGR oversees more than $46 million in federal funds through the FIFA World Cup Grant Program and $21.2 million through the Counter-Unmanned Aircraft Systems Grant Program. In addition, OGR awarded $390,000 to 15 victim service providers through the FIFA World Cup Human Trafficking Supplemental Resources program.

Preventing human trafficking requires awareness, partnership, and action.

Ahead of the FIFA World Cup, Massachusetts has launched a coordinated effort focused on prevention, public awareness, frontline training, survivor support, worker protections, and law enforcement collaboration.

Gun violence has no place in our communities. Through our management of state and federal grant funds, the Office of Grants and Research works every day to provide partners in law enforcement, nonprofits and other service providers with the resources needed to reduce gun violence.

Whether it’s building on 20 years of proven success reducing youth violence through the Shannon Community Safety Initiative, investing in de-escalation and crisis intervention programs to prevent gun deaths through the State Crisis Intervention Program or promoting safety through our other state and federally funded public safety grant programs, OGR is committed to supporting evidence-based and promising approaches to keep Massachusetts communities safe.

**Press Release – Engine Co. 2 Struck by Motor Vehicle on Route 24**

During the early morning hours of June 2, Engine Co. 2 was operating at the scene of a motor vehicle crash involving a State Police cruiser. While firefighters were working to secure the scene, Engine Co. 2 was positioned on the highway with all emergency warning lights activated to protect responders and the public.

Approximately 20 minutes later, and without warning, Engine Co. 2 was struck from behind by a motor vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed.

Fortunately, no firefighters were injured. However, Engine Co. 2 sustained significant damage and had to be towed from the scene.

This incident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers first responders face every day while operating on our roadways. Firefighters, police officers, EMS personnel, tow operators, and highway workers all depend on drivers to remain alert and obey Move Over laws.

Today, we were fortunate that no one was seriously injured or killed. The outcome could have been much different.

When approaching an emergency scene:

🚨 Slow Down
🚨 Move Over When Safe to Do So
🚨 Stay Alert and Avoid Distractions

Help us make sure everyone goes home safely at the end of their shift.

Join the Office of Grants and Research in celebrating Pride Month!

We’re proud that equipment and trainings funded through OGR’s grant programs will be put to use in communities across Massachusetts to ensure the safety of those attending Pride celebrations and other large gatherings that could be targeted by violence.

OGR works everyday to support programs that impact the LGBTQIA+ in Massachusetts. From delivering federal funds to nonprofits delivering culturally appropriate care to victims of domestic and sexual violence of all genders, to providing grants to improve security at organizations at risk of hate crimes, we’re here to support everyone in Massachusetts.
