We are praying for Susie as she begins treatment on her diagnosis. Susie is a fighter, and we are wishing her strength and a swift, full recovery.

HEALTH BATTLE: White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles shared she was diagnosed with breast cancer last week, adding she has a “very good prognosis” and is continuing her duties while undergoing treatment with support from President Trump.

Manatee County Government is saddened to announce the sudden passing of District 1 Commissioner Carol Ann Felts. Now that her family has been notified, we can confirm this news with our community with deep sorrow and respect.

Commissioner Felts was a dedicated public servant and a steadfast advocate for the residents of District 1. Throughout her tenure, she worked diligently to represent her constituents, strengthen community partnerships, and advance initiatives that supported the well-being of Manatee County and its residents.

“Commissioner Felts cared deeply about the people she served,” said Commission Chair Tal Siddique. “Her commitment to District 1 and to the future of our county was evident in her leadership and service. She will be greatly missed by her colleagues, County staff, and the community.”

The Manatee County Commission will formally recognize Commissioner Felts during its regular meeting on Tuesday, March 3, 2026. The Board will take time to honor her service and legacy.

Out of respect for Commissioner Felts’ family, no additional details are being shared at this time. The County extends its deepest condolences to her family, friends, and all who were touched by her life and service.

Further information regarding memorial arrangements will be shared as it becomes available.

We’ve fought tirelessly to protect animals and punish those who abuse them. This morning in Palm Beach County, I was proud to announce the next step we’re taking to stop animal cruelty: Legislation to put an end to inhumane puppy mills in Florida.

In partnership with , we will develop standard practices to ensure ethical dog breeding. We will direct to license dog breeders and hold accountable puppy mills that abuse dogs, whether by overbreeding them, leaving them out in extreme weather, cramming them into small cages, or limiting their access to water. A hotline will be established to report breeders suspected of abuse.

Our bill will also require pet stores to offer their space to local shelters for adoption before they use that space to sell dogs from puppy mills. As shelters across the state face overcrowding, offering animals for adoption at pet stores will help save them from being euthanized.

In Florida, we will continue to champion policies to protect our pets.
