Congratulations to Gary Masengale on receiving a Chief's Commendation, awarded by Manatee County EMS. 👏

The recognition comes after EMS leadership received multiple letters from outside agencies praising Gary's leadership, professionalism and ability to remain cool, calm and collected during complex incidents. Agencies highlighted his ability to lead under pressure, support those around him, and bring a sense of calm to challenging situations.

One agency went a step further, noting they frequently use Gary as an example of best practices in scene management and leadership while serving as a Code Leader.

A Chief's Commendation is awarded for outstanding achievements that create a positive impact within the division or the community. The recognition Gary received from multiple partner agencies is a testament to the difference he continues to make both on scene and throughout the public safety community.

Congratulations on this well-deserved recognition.

For most people, an ambulance is something they only see during an emergency. Recently, campers at Camp Flying Eagle got the chance to see one up close — and learn about the people and equipment behind it. 🚑

EMTs Mike Morales-Rodriguez and Giovanna Ciaramella from Bravo 65 spent time with campers demonstrating some of the tools EMS crews use every day, from cardiac monitors and CPR devices to trauma equipment and extrication gear. A few campers even had the opportunity to take vital signs and experience what it's like inside an ambulance.

Thank you to Camp Flying Eagle for welcoming our team and giving us the opportunity to share a little bit about what EMS does to serve our community.

Please join us in welcoming Recruit Class 26-04, who officially joined the Manatee County EMS family on June 1. 🚑

Over the next several weeks, they'll be learning the ins and outs of our organization in the classroom before putting those skills into practice during field training.

We're excited to have them on board and look forward to watching them grow as they begin their journey with Manatee County EMS. Welcome to the team!

School is out, summer is underway, and many of us are heading to the beach, pool, or splash pad to cool off.

Before you jump in, take a moment to learn about the Thor Guard lightning prediction system, which helps keep everyone safe at Manatee Public Beach, Coquina Beach, G.T. Bray Park, John Marble Recreation Center, and Lincoln Aquatic Center, as well as select splash pads.

⚡ One long horn blast: Lightning has been detected nearby. Leave the water and seek shelter immediately.
⚡ Three short horn blasts: The threat has passed and it is safe to resume activities.

Remember, these signals are used for lightning only and are not issued for tornadoes, flooding, or other severe weather conditions.

Now that hurricane season is underway, take time to learn about the resources available to help you prepare, including Manatee County's self-service sandbag stations.

Bags are provided at the sites; just remember to bring your own shovel. If you're able, consider helping elderly or vulnerable neighbors who may need assistance.

As Water Safety Month comes to a close, there’s one reminder we can’t say enough: swim lessons can save lives. 🏊‍♀️💙

Teaching children how to swim helps build confidence and important water safety skills, but swim lessons are just one layer of protection. Active adult supervision remains one of the most important ways to help prevent drownings.

Water Safety Month may be ending, but water safety is a year-round responsibility. Keep learning, keep practicing, and keep watching.

🚑 EMS Call Volume Snapshot: May 11-17 & May 18-24, 2026 🚨

⚠️ Featured Calls: Confusion and Dizziness

Sudden confusion or change in mental clarity is a red flag 🚩🚩🚩This could indicate low blood sugar, a stroke, or a severe underlying infection (Sepsis). Dizziness is one of the leading causes of dangerous falls and can be a symptom of a hidden cardiovascular issue, dehydration, or low blood pressure.

💡 EMS Safety Tip: If you or someone is suddenly "out of it," slurring words, acting completely out of character, or feeling dizzy, sit or lie down immediately to prevent a fall.

🚨 Call 911 immediately, especially if confusion or dizziness is accompanied by:

Chest pain or a racing heart
Sudden numbness/weakness in the face, arm, or leg
Fainting (loss of consciousness)

🚑 When in doubt, let EMS check it out.
