The Mecklenburg County burn ban is lifted

May 26, 2026

Effective immediately, the Mecklenburg County, Virginia burn ban has been lifted.

We appreciate everyone’s cooperation over the last several weeks while conditions remained extremely dry and hazardous.

Even though the burn ban has been lifted, conditions can still change quickly and outdoor burning should always be done safely and responsibly. Before burning, clear the area around the fire to help prevent it from spreading. In accordance with Virginia law, any fire located within 150 feet of dry grass, brush, woods, or other combustible material must be constantly attended by a competent person with adequate fire suppression equipment readily available. Fires should never be left unattended and must be completely extinguished before leaving the area.

Please remember that anyone responsible for starting a wildfire can be held liable for suppression costs and damages.

As always, use common sense, monitor weather conditions, and avoid burning on windy days.

Thank you again for helping us protect Mecklenburg County.

Great news, opening soon

We appreciate the patience and understanding of our Bracey residents as we work to complete the new Bracey Convenience Center. We had hoped to open much sooner, but a few unexpected construction delays and the later-than-anticipated opening of the local asphalt plant have pushed our timeline back. The good news is that we are fully staffed and ready to open as soon as our contractor gives us the green light. We are now expecting the convenience center to open within the next two weeks. Thank you for your continued support as we put the finishing touches on this important new service for our community! ♻️🧡

🔥 BURN BAN UPDATE MAY 8, 2026 🔥

The Mecklenburg County burn ban remains in effect at this time.

While we have received some much-needed rainfall over the last couple of days, conditions are still not where they need to be for us to safely lift the burn ban. Vegetation is only beginning to green back up, and many areas remain dry enough for fires to spread quickly.

We understand that many residents are anxious to resume outdoor burning, and we appreciate everyone’s patience and cooperation during this period. Our goal is to ensure conditions are truly safe before allowing open burning to resume.

Additional rain is forecasted for this weekend, and Emergency Services, along with our public safety partners, will reevaluate conditions again next week.

Until then, the burn ban remains in place.

Thank you for helping us keep Mecklenburg County safe.

A reminder that the ban on all forms of open air burning is still in effect until further notice. Please adhere to this without exception.

Effective April 7th at 4:00 PM, Mecklenburg County will implement a ban on ALL outdoor open-air burning until further notice. THIS BAN PROHIBITS ALL BURNING 24 HOURS A DAY!

Over the past several weeks, our fire departments have responded to an increase in brush fires across the county. Combined with ongoing dry conditions, low humidity, and the lack of meaningful rainfall in the forecast, the risk for fire spread remains high.

This burn ban is being put in place to help protect our communities, our responders, and our natural resources.

We appreciate everyone’s cooperation and ask that you help us keep Mecklenburg County safe.
