What’s that you see out the door or window? Yessiree Bob, that is most definitely smoke you see.
But cool your jets there super sleuth, before you call 911, ask yourself “do you see flames”?. The smoke you are seeing today and tomorrow has traveled all the way from Canadian wildfires, just to make your very hot day even more miserable. Do yourself a favor, stay inside and don’t worry about it.

Lake Gaston Fire & EMS is very sorry to report the passing of former Fire Fire Chief Buddy A. Pruden.
Buddy served as Chief and President of the department for many years and was a fixture at all department events. He was a Charter Member and Life Member. He was well known in the community as he was a builder and built many buildings in the area including the original fire station. He was a military veteran, having served in the US Navy.
Buddy was also an EMT, and served as a volunteer with Southside Rescue Squad for many years.
Buddy was an avid outdoorsman, and loved to hunt, fish and camp. He was also a very passionate cook.
He is survived by his wife Pat and son Shawn.
He will be very much missed, but will never be forgotten.

The Mecklenburg County burn ban is lifted

May 26, 2026

Effective immediately, the Mecklenburg County, Virginia burn ban has been lifted.

We appreciate everyone’s cooperation over the last several weeks while conditions remained extremely dry and hazardous.

Even though the burn ban has been lifted, conditions can still change quickly and outdoor burning should always be done safely and responsibly. Before burning, clear the area around the fire to help prevent it from spreading. In accordance with Virginia law, any fire located within 150 feet of dry grass, brush, woods, or other combustible material must be constantly attended by a competent person with adequate fire suppression equipment readily available. Fires should never be left unattended and must be completely extinguished before leaving the area.

Please remember that anyone responsible for starting a wildfire can be held liable for suppression costs and damages.

As always, use common sense, monitor weather conditions, and avoid burning on windy days.

Great news, opening soon

We appreciate the patience and understanding of our Bracey residents as we work to complete the new Bracey Convenience Center. We had hoped to open much sooner, but a few unexpected construction delays and the later-than-anticipated opening of the local asphalt plant have pushed our timeline back. The good news is that we are fully staffed and ready to open as soon as our contractor gives us the green light. We are now expecting the convenience center to open within the next two weeks. Thank you for your continued support as we put the finishing touches on this important new service for our community! ♻️🧡
