Marshall Loxahatchee National Wildlife Refuge was established on June 8, 1951. The refuge protects threatened and endangered species and migratory birds, maintains unique Everglades habitat, and provides compatible educational and recreational facilities. The refuge is open to the public from 5:00 am to 10:00 pm daily. The visitor center is open from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm daily except for Thanksgiving and Christmas. Note: The visitor center is currently closed due to Covid.

NOTICE: Water will be shut off in Refuge buildings starting at 9 am tomorrow, May 22, 2026. The outdoor bathrooms behind the visitor center will be locked. A portable toilet is available at the Lee Rd boat ramp. This maintenance is crucial to the upkeep the water well on the Refuge because we are not connected to county water lines. Thank you for your understanding! Here is a picture a deer crossing the driveway towards our visitor center.

NOTICE: Staff will be using heavy equipment to clear sediment from the canals along the A and B impoundment trails. Mud will be present along the trail. Thanks to our GAOA maintenance team for helping us complete this work! Clearing the sediment from the culverts is crucial for water flow. Water flow and nutrient flow is important for our ecosystem. Please excuse the mud for the next few weeks! If you have questions, please call our visitor center at 561 734 8303.

"Hewwo?" This deer, probably.

Did you know that we have camera stations all over the interior of the Refuge? Even though the majority of the interior is covered in water, there are plenty of wildlife! Deer, raccoons, bobcats, even marsh rabbits live in the interior surrounded by the open marsh. Camera stations monitored by us and several research partners help us make an estimate of wildlife population and more pressing, if any pythons are around. We are hosting the State Finals tomorrow, April 11, 2026 from 7 am to 3 pm. Awesome student teams representing their Florida county will be competing for the right to compete at nationals later this year. There will be several teams around the marsh trail and the visitor center. All trails will be open.
