Mr. Lee’s 8th Grade Social Studies class at Boyne Falls Public School has been learning all about the 13 Colonies!

To bring their learning to life, students worked collaboratively in groups to create life-size colonists, complete with clothing, tools, and decorations that would have been appropriate for the time period.

Our 8th graders loved the opportunity to work together while demonstrating their understanding in a creative and artistic way. What a fun way to bring history to life!

Better late than never! We are excited to introduce our new 5th-grade teacher, Mr. Shaylor Duncan!

Mr. Duncan currently lives in Petoskey with his wife, Margie, after recently relocating to Northern Michigan from South Carolina. He attended the College of Charleston, where he studied physical education, and later earned his master’s degree in Educational Administration from the University of South Carolina.

In his free time, Mr. Duncan enjoys playing soccer, archery, hunting and fishing, reading, and dancing. He is also looking forward to Winter Rec at Boyne Mountain this year, where he’ll be learning how to ski for the first time!

Most of all, Mr. Duncan is excited to get to know his students, their families, and the Boyne Falls community as he settles into his new role.

Please join us in giving Mr. Duncan a warm Logger welcome! And if you have any tips for a first-time skier, drop them in the comments! ⛷

We’re glad you’re here, Mr. Duncan!

Tomorrow 🧡

🧡 Next Wednesday, September 30, is Orange Shirt Day!

We invite all Boyne Falls students and staff to wear orange in recognition of Orange Shirt Day and its important message that Every Child Matters.

Orange Shirt Day began in Canada to honor Indigenous children who were forced to attend residential schools, where many were separated from their families, cultures, and languages. The day recognizes the experiences of survivors, remembers the children who never returned home, and acknowledges the lasting impact these schools have had on Indigenous families and communities.

Any classroom discussions about Orange Shirt Day will be approached in a way that is age-appropriate and developmentally appropriate for our students. At its heart, the day reminds us that every child deserves to feel safe, valued, respected, and proud of who they are.

No matter their age, the message remains the same: Every Child Matters. 🧡

We hope you'll join us in wearing orange next Wednesday!
