The Charlevoix Conservation District teamed up with the Michigan Prois Ladies for some chainsaw 101 with local SAWW certified trainer, Aaron Beishlag, of Beishlag Logging in East Jordan, who covered everything from safety, chainsaw care, and hands-on tips for notching, boring, and even felling! These ladies started out with no experience with a chainsaw to feeling confident and ready to keep learning more! Many thanks to Aaron, Prois and the ladies who came out to enjoy this unique event!

Deer Processing Workshop October 26th

Join us for a hands-on Deer Processing Workshop at 5:30PM on October 26th at 7845 Odawa Circle, Harbor Springs. learn to process and package deer in a friendly environment. Whether you're friends with a hunter or want to be one. learn how to skin, quarter, and debone a field dressed deer. Participants should wear an apron or hunting clothes and bring a sharp knife. Open to all LTBB Citizens, Descendants, and Employees

Today, the Charlevoix Conservation District had the pleasure of hosting our Region 3 Conservation District meeting! 🌿

We were joined by colleagues from Antrim, Emmet, Kalkaska, Benzie, Leelanau, and Grand Traverse Conservation Districts for a day of connection, collaboration, and sharing ideas.

One of the things we value most about working in conservation is the opportunity to learn from others who are doing this work in their own communities. Each district has its own unique challenges, resources, and priorities, but we share a common goal: supporting local landowners and a passion for protecting and improving the natural resources that make Northern Michigan such a special place to live.

Thank you to everyone who made the trip and contributed to the conversation. It was a great reminder of how much we can accomplish when we work together. 🌱

Lake Charlevoix Association Partnership Update:

Later this month when the weather is right, LCA will be providing logistical support to two research teams from CAKE-CISMA (CAKE CISMA). We will be surveying known and suspected sites for acquatic invasive species and European Phagmites around the shoreline of Lake Charlevoix. If you are aware of any sites we should be investigating, please send location information to [email protected]. We will be moving about the shoreline by boat, so the sites need to be approachable or at least observable from the water.
