Tip of the Week

Too much rain? Keep it out of the drain with landscaping alternatives that are both beneficial to you and our environment!

-Install a rain barrel. Collect rainwater from rooftops into mosquito-proof containers. Use collected water in your garden or to wash your car.

-Create a rain garden. Rain gardens are specially designed areas planted with native plants that provide natural places for rainwater to collect and soak into the ground. Rain from rooftops or paved surfaces can be diverted into rain gardens, rather than storm drains.

Feel up for an easy DIY challenge? Connect your rain barrel to a rain garden by placing a hose in the flow direction of the rain garden. Or simply build the rain garden in a detention area near the rain barrel to catch overflow from rain events.
