SUMMER SAFETY SERIES - CLOSE BEFORE YOU DOZE

Did you know sleeping with your bedroom door closed can help save your life in the event of a house fire?

The “Close Before You Doze” campaign is a fire safety initiative reminding families that shutting bedroom doors before going to sleep can serve as a vital barrier during a fire. A closed door can drastically reduce toxic smoke, slow the spread of flames, keep room temperatures significantly lower, and provide valuable extra time to escape safely.

Stay tuned for more Summer Safety Series topics from our department!

The City is a proud partner and bringing all kinds of fun free activities and giveaways for kids and families. Many departments are participating together!

Today we celebrate Battalion Chief Joe Harbin's birthday and career with the Bowling Green Fire Department.

Joe's fire service career began in 2005 in Ohio before returning to Bowling Green after being hired by the BGFD in 2007. As a 4th generation firefighter, he knew from a young age this was the career he wanted to do. After 21 years on the job, Joe says, "I still think its the best job in the world." His favorite part of being a firefighter is that every single day is different, and every day provides the opportunity to do something special.

Away from work Joe spends his free time with his wife and three kids. They can usually be found at a sporting event, but on free days they enjoy spending time at the lake, camping, hiking, and traveling. In addition to his role with the BGFD, Joe also works part time for Warren County Fire Department and volunteers with Hope House.

We are grateful for Joe not only a leader within our department, but as a devoted family man, mentor and servant to the community. Happy Birthday, BC Harbin, and thank you for all you do for the BGFD and the citizens we proudly serve.
