Congratulations, Bobcats! Bowling Green City Schools earned an overall rating of 4.5 out of 5 stars on the 2026 Ohio School Report Card—exceeding state standards for the third consecutive year!

BGCS ranked among the top 4% of Ohio school districts for student growth and the top 12% for Overall Rating Points. Four of our five schools improved their overall rating, while the fifth maintained a 5-star rating—the highest possible!

Be Here, Bobcats—Attendance Matters! Every day at school helps students learn, build relationships, and develop healthy routines. Missing just two or three days each month can add up to chronic absence—about 18 days in a school year.

All missed instructional time counts towards chronic absense, including excused and unexcused absences, late arrivals, early dismissals and appointments. Families may receive an attendance notice beginning around six missed days. This is an opportunity to communicate, identify barriers and work together—not necessarily an indication that a student is in trouble.

Chronic absence is different from truancy. An excused absence can contribute to chronic absence, but it does not count toward habitual-truancy. Habitual truancy is based only on absences without a legitimate excuse. Ohio law defines a habitual truant as a student who has accumulated:

30 consecutive unexcused hours
42 unexcused hours in one school month
72 unexcused hours in one school year

Having consistent bedtime and morning routines, planning appointments outside school hours, and contacting the school early when challenges arise can help with attendance.

Math Kangaroo Team Competition Information: BGCS students in grades 1–12 are invited to team up for a fun, collaborative math challenge! Teams of 2–4 students will solve creative multiple-choice and short-answer problems while building teamwork and problem-solving skills.

Date: Wednesday, November 18, 2026
Time: 4–5 p.m.
Location: Bowling Green Middle School
Cost: $15 per student through September 15; $25 per student September 16–October 15

Teams may include different grade levels but will compete at the grade level of the oldest student. A parent or guardian should serve as the team coach and complete one registration for the entire team. Volunteer Opportunity: The BGCS Mentors Program is seeking volunteers to mentor elementary students from November 2026 through April 2027.

The time commitment is 1 day a week (Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday) for either breakfast (8:45 - 9:15 a.m.) -OR - for 30 minutes during lunch (between 11:05 a.m. -1:45 p.m.)
