Wood Lane - Wood County Board of Developmental Disabilities

Wood Lane - Wood County Board of Developmental Disabilities Supporting, Empowering, and Inspiring individuals with developmental disabilities in Wood County.

Wood County Board of Developmental Disabilities works to support, empower, and inspire all people. As an organization we strive to provide individuals with the best choices and options in education, health care, employment, recreation, and community involvement across the life span. We receive support from many community members, civic and religious groups, BGSU and local businesses that help us to be successful in achieving our mission. Without the dedication of hard working employees and human service agencies we would not be where we are today. We know that within the heart of each community, EVERYONE belongs!

ALL IN for DSPs | Meet Justin!

Today, we're highlighting Justin Johnson, a DSP with Trust Care Group!

For Justin, being a DSP is about much more than showing up for a job. It's about showing up for people - making sure the individuals he supports feel respected, heard and cared for, even on the difficult days.

That commitment, consistency and compassion are at the heart of what Direct Support Professionals do every day. DSPs build relationships, encourage independence and provide the support that helps people live meaningful lives in their communities.

Justin says he's grateful for the opportunity to do this work and we're grateful for DSPs like Justin who continue to show up and make a difference.

Thank you, Justin, for being ALL IN for the people you support! Help us show Justin some appreciation in the comments!

ALL IN for DSPs | Meet Logan!

Meet Logan Benjamin, CSP Training Coordinator at KanDu Group and one of the incredible DSPs we're celebrating this month!

Logan has been with KanDu for nearly five years and has been described as a “calming force in a chaotic environment.” He brings enthusiasm, kindness and a genuine commitment to the individuals he supports, taking the time to learn their interests, recognize their strengths and find opportunities for them to grow.

One of those opportunities? 3D printing!

We caught up with Logan to learn more about the 3D printing program, how individuals are getting involved and the possibilities he sees for building skills, employment and even self-employment.

▶️ Hear from Logan and see what they've been working on!

Thank you, Logan, for seeing potential, creating opportunities and being ALL IN for the individuals you support!

Help us celebrate Logan with a shoutout in the comments!

WHO ARE DSPs? DSP stands for Direct Support Professional - but those three words only begin to describe the important role they play.

DSPs work alongside people with developmental disabilities to provide the support they need to live, work, learn and participate in their communities as independently as possible.

On any given day, a DSP might be helping someone learn a new skill, get ready for work, prepare a meal, manage daily responsibilities, attend an appointment, enjoy a community activity or work toward a personal goal.

DSPs are advocates. Encouragers. Teachers. Problem-solvers. Trusted supports. They build relationships, celebrate accomplishments, encourage independence and help create opportunities for people to live the lives they choose.

Now we want to hear from YOU!
Do you know an amazing DSP? Tag them in the comments and tell us what makes them special. Let's fill the comments with some well-deserved DSP appreciation!
