The Bowling Green Firehouse. Originally built in 1981 as a 2 bay block building later added on-to with an additional 2 bay pole structure.
One of Clay County's most utilitarian firehouse has no rest rooms for the firefighters. 2 years ago we added a port-a-pot as our volunteers base expanded and several female firefighters joined. Our running water consists of a single indoor garden hose to suit the majority of our needs from washing fire hose to rinsing out the bays.
During the winter we heat the firehouse to a balmy 55 degrees except on meeting nights where it occasionally gets up to 65 degrees. On hot summer days we pull chairs outside and try our best to talk over the roar of traffic from State Road 46.
Our office is an upstairs mezzanine that is almost always so full of gear and supplies that you can't turn around. During the summer just walking up the stairs the heat will take your breath away.
THE GOOD NEWS! We are working towards a GRANT to build a more modern fire station. Soon we will post a Go Fund Me and start talking with local businesses to help offset the match required to get this grant.
Stay tuned as we embark on this exciting journey in 2026!
