Bowie Memorial VFW Post # 8065 participated in the annual City of Bowie Memorial Day Ceremony on 25 May 2026. The host Veterans Service Organization for today's program was Disabled American Veterans Omaha Beach Chapter #7 under the leadership of Chapter Commander Lawrence White. He led those in attendance with the National Amyhem, the Pledge of Allegiance, a wreath laying by all organizations, a rifle salute by the American Legion Disney-Bell Post 66 Honor Guard followed by the playing of Taps.
Post 8065 Life members in attendance were Post Commander Edward Lee Jaenichen, Senior Vice Commander Keith Hockman, Junior Vice Commander Naomi Carrington-Hockman, Adjutant Megan Bogley, Quartermaster Paul Connolly, Trustee Alec Burgess, Gary Blanton and Lawrence White.
Due to rain and field conditions at Veterans Park in Old Bowie the program was moved indoors across the road at Bates Hall on the grounds of Ascension Roman Catholic Church.
The program was also attended by City, County, State dignitaries, the Bowie Fire Department, Bowie Police Department, Maryland State Police, Boy Scouts , Girl Scouts, along with other community and civic groups.
A Buffet style luncheon was held for all in attendance following the ceremony at the DAV Omaha Beach Chapter #7 Home.
