Can you believe it’s been twenty years? On Saturday, September 19, 2026, the Bowie Police Department will proudly celebrate its 20th anniversary! To honor your partnership, trust, and commitment to public safety over the years, Chief Dwayne A. Preston and the entire department invite you to join us for a community celebration. Bring your family, friends, and neighbors for a fun day at our Police Headquarters. Here's what we have planned:

• Station Tours: Explore behind the scenes of our headquarters.
• K-9 Demonstrations: See our K-9 units in action.
• Vehicle Displays: Get up close with police cruisers and tactical vehicles.
• Food & Giveaways: Enjoy tasty food and grab some department swag.

Today, we gathered as a community to honor the innocent lives lost, remember the incredible heroism of our first responders, and reflect on the enduring spirit of unity that defines us.
Thank you to our Mistress of Ceremonies, Jennifer Donelan, for guiding our ceremony with such grace, dignity, and reverence. We are deeply grateful for your leadership in bringing us together for this solemn occasion.

We also extend our sincere gratitude to the elected leaders, county officials, and public safety personnel who stood with us today:

On Friday, September 11, 2026, the City of Bowie warmly invites all residents to come together to remember the events of 9/11 as we mark the 25th anniversary and honor those we lost. Join us at Allen Pond Park (3330 Northview Drive) from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. for a heartfelt gathering featuring remarks from city and county officials, an honor guard presentation, a special commemorative flyover, and a silent walk around the pond.
Please note that police presence will be increased due to the attendance of dignitaries. Motorists along Northview Drive may experience minor traffic delays during this time. We hope you can join us in this community moment of reflection and remembrance—a time to come together and honor our shared history.

The City of Bowie will commemorate the 25th anniversary of September 11, 2001, with a ceremony on September 11 at 9 a.m. at Allen Pond Park (3330 Northview Drive).
The ceremony will honor those who lost their lives, remember the families and survivors impacted, and recognize the first responders and service members who answered the call.
The program will include remarks from City Council and Prince George’s County leaders, an honor guard presentation, and a silent commemorative walk around the pond.

🚨Traffic Advisory 🚨
Due to this morning’s rainstorm, several traffic signals along Collington Rd (MD 197) have been affected. Specifically, the traffic lights are not working at the intersections of Collington Rd (MD 197) and U.S. 301, Mitchellville Rd, and Evergreen Pkwy. The signal at Collington Rd (MD 197) and U.S. Route 50 is flashing. The utility company has been notified and is working to fix the issue.
There is currently no estimated time for when the signals will be restored. Motorists should exercise caution at these locations.
