WHY I AM A WATERMAN
"First of all it's the freedom; that is number one. It's the appeal of hunting for the fish. There is always the hope of a Big Catch; that's the reason I go out there. There is the whole aspect of being in God's Creation; the natural beauty of the bay. It's tough work, but it has its rewards. I'm absolutely fulfilled by it! ---Jimmy Dare, Longtime Bowers' Waterman

If you weren’t at the marker ceremony yesterday, here are my remarks. I was asked to share them. I don’t often get to tell people things they might not know about the museum. -Judy

THIS SUNDAY!!! Who knew learning could be such fun?!

Personally, I can’t wait to see the Nanticoke Troupe perform. I’m ashamed to say I’ve only seen pictures before and I’ve always heard great things about those performances. This time I can take my own pictures. 😁

You can still register in Watermen’s Park (Clifton Cubbage Rd) for the 5K Run/Walk 15 minutes before!

DELAWARE SNAPSHOT 📸
Celebrating Heritage in Bowers
This Sunday, October 11, we celebrate one of our oldest maritime communities, settled in 1675 as Whitwell’s Delight and renamed Bowers in 1734. Bowers Heritage Day marks the 50th year of must-see Bowers Beach Maritime Museum with family-friendly fun 10 a.m.- 3 p.m. after a benefit 5K. Festivities at the museum, open at 11, feature a celebration of a new Delaware Historical Marker and community mural, a Nanticoke Indian Dance Troupe performance, a Delaware Public Archives program on Revolutionary War weaponry, and displays by the Archaeological Society of Delaware and Delaware Agricultural Museum. And being Bowers, there will be pirates.
