Please help us honor our retirees for the 25-26 school year.

We celebrate the remarkable career of Julie Hanhart as she prepares for retirement. Julie has spent the last eight years as a devoted first and second-grade teacher at Shabbona Elementary, capping off an incredible 35-year journey in education that included 27 years with the Kankakee School District. Colleagues and families alike will deeply miss her warmth, dedication, and genuine love for her students. As she begins this new chapter, she looks forward to traveling with her husband and embracing her role as a grandmother to her beautiful granddaughters. We wish her the best in this new chapter!

Please help us honor our retirees for the 25-26 school year.

After 17 incredible years of service to BESD53, we are saying a bittersweet goodbye to Sandy Reynolds. Sandy hasn’t just been a Teacher Assistant, she’s been the heart of the classroom. Whether she was advocating for a student who needed an extra boost or serving as the glue that held her teaching team together, her dedication was unmatched. We will deeply miss her warmth, her wisdom, and that infectious personality that brightened even the longest days. Her humor always shines through. Congratulations on a well-deserved retirement! Thank you for leaving such a beautiful mark on our schools.

Please help us honor our retirees for the 25-26 school year.

Dan Chamernik has always had a great desire to lead and support the staff in BESD53. During his tenure as a principal, teacher, coach, mentor, and union president, he always gave everyone the time of day and did what he thought was necessary to improve the district. His time, willingness to help, and thoughtful consideration made everything and everyone around him better. Dan, we will certainly miss your presence in B53, and we wish you the best as you enjoy time with family and endless sunsets on your boat.

Please help us honor our retirees for the 25-26 school year.

Join us in wishing Diana Parker all the best as she heads into retirement! This year, she has been a valued member of our Destiny program, supporting students with diverse needs with care and dedication. Over the course of her 12-year career in education, she has made a meaningful impact on many students and families. We thank her for the compassion and commitment she brought to our school community and wish her a wonderful and fulfilling retirement!

Please help us honor our retirees for the 25-26 school year.

Robin O'Connor- Robin started at Shepard in 2015, and has been an amazing librarian for 26 years. Robin loves children and supporting their journey to becoming readers. She has always enjoyed helping students find the right books to spark their imagination and encourage a life-long love for reading. According to Robin, it has been her pleasure working in the library at Shepard School. Robin will be greatly missed by our staff and students.

Theresa McCool- Terri retired after a few years as a custodian at Shepard School. She spent countless hours cleaning the school at night while also taking care of our teacher with lots of candy treats! Terri always had a joke or a quick witted reply. She connected well with our staff and also shared many laughs during her time at Shepard. Terri is missed by the Shepard Staff.

Please help us honor our retirees for the 25-26 school year.

Judy Crombar- Judy retired earlier this year after 20 years of working as a paraprofessional in B53. Judy worked at BUGC, Liberty and Shepard. She loved getting to know the students and helping them do their best every day. She also is a foodie at heart who loves to travel! Judy is fully enjoying her retirement by spending time with her grandchildren. The staff and students at Shepard surely miss Judy.
