Borough of Bound Brook

Borough of Bound Brook The Official Borough of Bound Brook page The borough has much to offer.

Welcome to the Official Page of the Borough of Bound Brook, a historic borough of approximately 1.6 square miles and 10,400 residents – a great place to live, work and play. First settled in the late 1600s, Bound Brook is located along the Raritan River, in the northeastern corner of Somerset County. It sits between two brooks – the Middlebrook to the west along its border with Bridgewater, and th

e Green Brook (also referred to as the Bound Brook) to the east along its border with Middlesex Borough and Middlesex County. Its size is optimal -- small enough to retain a “small town” flavor, and with its own downtown, but within easy travel distance of all the cultural, economic and transportation resources of the Newark/New York metropolitan area. Bound Brook is conveniently located along the Raritan Valley Line passenger railroad, which runs to Newark and New York City, as well as Interstate 287, State Highway Route 22, and Route 28 /Union Avenue.

Bound Brook 🌳Shade Tree Commission🌳thanks the Mayor and the Borough for inviting them to plant a memorial tree for the nation’s 250th anniversary 🇺🇸

The Shade Tree Commission chose a tree that would be stately, native to the region and could potentially grow to be as old as our beautiful oak in the Old Presbyterian Graveyard.

Learn more about the tree below:

🌳Tulip tree/Liriodendron tulipifera🌳

The Tulip tree grows 2 or more ft per year and can grow well over 70 ft tall. Young trees like the one planted in the Old Presbyterian Graveyard have smooth greenish gray bark. As they age and grow, the bark turns brown and furrowed (or ridged) and is described as aromatic and bitter (we suggest a smell test vs taste test!). The crown or canopy will have a pyramidal shape and with age will become more rounded.

The tree gets it’s common name from the shape of it’s leaves which resemble a tulip and it produces tulip shaped flowers in late spring/early summer. The flowers support pollinators such as bees, butterflies and hummingbirds.

We hope current residents and future generations will enjoy the beauty of this tulip tree for a few hundred years. Perhaps this tree will be acknowledged at the Quincentennial in another 250 years!

Join the Bound Brook Shade Tree Commission at their Arbor Day Event and help them in their mission to plant 250 tree this year! You can pre-order your seedlings (choose up to 3) by emailing [email protected]. Provide your name, address, phone/email and seedling choices.

Pick up seedlings at their Arbor Day event; Sunday April 26 2 PM at the Tea Street Sports Complex.
