Permanency is supposed to mean one thing: a child has a safe, stable, lifelong family connection.

In New Jersey, Kinship Legal Guardianship (KLG) was created as one pathway to achieve that—especially for relatives stepping in when reunification or adoption isn’t possible.

But in practice, KLG isn’t always delivering true permanency. If we are serious about permanency, we have to be honest about where the system is falling short—and fix it.

This Mother’s Day, we hold space for every kind of mothering journey.
For the waiting mom.

The foster mom saying yes ((again)).
The adoptive mom navigating in the hard.
The birth mom carrying loss.
The kinship caregiver holding it all together.
The grieving mom.
The grand mom standing in the gap.
The hopeful mom.

And we thank you for the fierce, quiet, everyday love that changes lives.

At Miriam’s Heart, we know motherhood is not always simple, celebrated, or easy. Sometimes it looks like paperwork, court dates, therapies, hard conversations, late nights, and deep sacrifice.
