This week, we proudly recognize and celebrate National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week — a time to honor the dedicated professionals behind the scenes who are the calm voice in the chaos.

The dispatchers of the Bottineau County Sheriff’s Office are the first line of response. They answer the calls no one else wants to make, gather critical information, and ensure our deputies, EMS, and fire personnel get where they need to go—quickly and safely. Their ability to stay calm under pressure, think critically, and show compassion makes all the difference in moments that matter most.

Often unseen, but never unappreciated, our dispatchers are a vital part of public safety in Bottineau County. Their professionalism, dedication, and commitment to serving our community do not go unnoticed.

Thank you to all the agencies that assisted in locating Karen.

********ATTENTION*********

The Bottineau County Sheriff’s Office is asking the public’s assistance in locating a Karen Fraser. Karen is a 84 year old Female. She is 5’1” Thin with light complexion. Karen has longer dark hair. Karen was last seen at her residence in Bottineau in the area of 7th and Sinclair St around 7:30-8 pm on 4/2/26. Unknown what Karen is wearing. Karen may have dementia, and may be confused or disoriented. Bottineau Fire,EMS,along with Sheriff’s Office is actively searching for Karen.

We are asking if Bottineau residence could check cameras and their properties.

The sheriffs office along with other agencies will be walking and driving the areas.

The Bottineau County Sheriff’s Office has received information from area residents that they have received calls from scammers alleging themselves to be Sheriff’s Office Deputies. The scammers tell the victims that they missed jury duty and would have to pay a bond. The scammers then inform the victim that they need to respond to the Bottineau County Sheriff’s Office to pay the bond. Upon calling the number back the scammers attempt to make their claims legitimate by having an automated menu falsely claiming the victim has contacted the Bottineau County Sheriff’s Office.

The Bottineau County Sheriff’s Office would never call residents of Bottineau County requesting money over the phone. Bottineau County Sheriff’s Office cautions all county residents to be vigilant of potential scams and skeptical of anyone asking for money or other financial information over the phone. Anyone who receives phone calls like the one described above is encouraged to note the phone number of the scammer and contact the Sheriff’s Office at 701 228 2740.

The Sheriff’s office also encourages anyone who suspects they may be being scammed to contact law enforcement. It is important that the public properly vet anyone asking for financial information, purchasing and providing gift card information, mailing cash or checks, or providing any account information. If you are in doubt, please contact the Bottineau County Sheriff’s Office to assist you.

On February 8, 2026 Bottineau County Sheriff’s office received a call regarding the suspicious death of a horse in rural Bottineau County. It was determined that a horse had sustained gunshot wounds leading to its death. The horse was shot near unoccupied structures in a fenced pasture. It is believed that the horse was shot in the overnight hours between February 7th and 8th in the area of 12th Ave NE and 104th St. NE. The Bottineau County Sheriff’s office is requesting that anyone in that area who may have witnessed, or have any camera footage from that area and time frame contact the Sheriff’s Office. The Bottineau County Sheriff’s Office also encourages anyone that may have knowledge of the shooting to contact them at 701-228-2740.

Bottineau County also participates in collection of crime tips online. If you have information that you would like to submit to the Sheriff’s Office regarding this investigation or any other criminal activity, please visit the following website to provide the tip online. ..BLIZZARD WARNING IN EFFECT FROM MIDNIGHT TONIGHT TO 6 PM CST THURSDAY...

* WHAT...Blizzard conditions possible. Total snow accumulations
around 2 to 4 inches. Winds could gust as high as 60 mph.

* WHERE...Bottineau, McHenry, Pierce, and Rolette Counties.

* WHEN...From midnight tonight to 6 PM CST Thursday.

* IMPACTS...Plan on slippery road conditions. Widespread blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility. The hazardous conditions
will impact the Thursday morning commute. Strong winds could cause damage to trees and power lines.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Travel should be restricted to emergencies only. If you must travel,
have a winter survival kit with you. If you get stranded, stay with
