Boston Public Schools students, staff and families return to our buildings for the first days of school, with Grades 1-12 starting Tuesday, September 8, and Kindergarten Grades K0, K1 and K2 starting Thursday, September 10.

Frederick Elementary begins its inaugural school year today, September 8, 2026. The school serves students in Grades Pre-K through 6 and will launch the first-of-its-kind Cabo Verdean Kriolu dual-language program this fall, beginning in Kindergarten (K1) and expanding year after year.

The Boston School Committee voted to close the Lilla Frederick Pilot Middle School in 2024 and merge the Winthrop and Clap Elementary Schools to become the new Lilla G. Frederick Elementary School in 2025.

Boston Public Schools students, staff and families return to our buildings for the first days of school, with Grades 1-12 starting Tuesday, September 8, and Kindergarten Grades K0, K1 and K2 starting Thursday, September 10.

Superintendent Mary Skipper and other BPS officials joined Mayor Michelle Wu 吳弭 and Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education Commissioner Pedro Martinez at Holland Elementary School in Dorchester to welcome back students and families and kick off the school year.

Every door is an opportunity to connect.

Mayor Michelle Wu 吳弭 and Boston Public Schools Superintendent Mary Skipper joined volunteers, City of Boston teams and community partners such as the Boston Private Industry Council - PIC on Friday for the annual Re-Engagement Door Knocking event!

Teams hit the streets in Jamaica Plain, Roxbury and Dorchester, visiting the homes of some of our most-vulnerable students – the chronically absent and those who have dropped out of school altogether – to share encouragement and let students and families know: BPS is here for you.

These conversations are about connection, belonging and helping students find their path back to school and back on-track with their education.

Huge thanks to all the volunteers and community partners who showed up for our students!

A great school day starts with great fuel! BPS Eats is the largest school-meal program in New England, serving healthy, nutritious breakfast and lunch to students across the district.

Long before students walk through the doors Tuesday, September 8, for the first day of school, Boston Public Schools (BPS) Facilities teams were hard at work preparing school buildings across the City of Boston.

The effort takes careful planning, teamwork and a whole lot of elbow grease.
