🎉Exciting news!🎉 We have launched a new strategic initiative to strengthen the connection between the model and deep, long-term economic mobility for young people. This month, we convened 16 local YouthBuild programs from across the country to kick off the pilot’s first year.

The Catalyst Pilot is designed to strengthen the YouthBuild model so that YouthBuild graduates are well-positioned beyond their first entry into the workforce and are able to move into their second jobs, increase their earnings and continue building their careers over time.

Together, we and our network of local programs are working to expand what’s possible for young people, partnering with them as they build brighter futures.

"They've been caring and supportive for me and my family," said Jamal of YouthBuild Philly, "When I finally had an info session here, I knew immediately that this is where I wanted to be."

Jamal was among more than 400 students, staff, alumni and supporters who marched along North Broad Street on Thursday, kicking off the new school year with one of YouthBuild Philadelphia Charter School's longest-standing traditions centered on resilience, second chances and reclaiming education.

🏡 In Columbia, Missouri, Job Point's program just celebrated the completion of their 43rd affordable housing unit—a three-bedroom, two-bathroom home that will soon welcome an income-eligible family.

For young people like Micheal, this project meant so much more than construction experience. It meant stepping outside his comfort zone, installing solar panels and flooring, earning his GED and driver's license, and being part of something bigger than himself.

💙 "I've never been part of a community, so becoming part of one and actually doing something productive feels amazing," Micheal shared.

For 23 years, Job Point's YouthBuild has been creating opportunities for Columbia's youth to reclaim their education, gain job skills, build careers, and support their community—all while building their own.

“One thing I look forward to in the future was inspired by YouthBuild, when we did Habitat for Humanity,” said SER YouthBuild Learning Academy graduate Dylan Sanders, "I got to restore a home that I could drive by and see 20 or 30 years later when I got kids and be like, ‘yo, look at that building. That was me.’”

Graduates of the Detroit program earn a high school diploma or GED along with but they OSHA and CPR training. They have access to a construction lab to do hands-on training, and they go out to work sites to get hands-on training.

Since graduating, Dylan has become a union carpenter and is in the second year of his apprenticeship. Huge shoutout to the amazing staff and young people at this program!
