Today, on International Literacy Day, we join in recognizing the importance of literacy for creating a more just, peaceful and sustainable society.
Beyond reading and writing on paper, literacy in the digital era enables people to access, understand, evaluate, create, communicate and engage with digital content. Literacy is also central for fostering critical thinking, discerning credible information and navigating complex information environments.
Every week, our Women’s Education Center’s classrooms welcome women from around the globe committed to becoming literate in a new language. We are inspired by their efforts and thankful to all our volunteer teachers who help them break down barriers and open doors to opportunity.
