Vital Village Network

Vital Village Network Vital Village is a network of residents and organizations committed to maximizing child, family, and community well-being.

Our place-based, community engagement network mobilizes collective investment from residents, community organizations and institutions to seed scalable and sustainable community change around child protection and promoting healthy social and emotional development in early childhood. The Vital Village Network is using a collective impact approach to supporting deeper collaboration among educators,

clinicians, social service providers, legal advocates and residents to strengthen prenatal, early childhood education, and economic security and preventive legal resources that support family and community protective factors. We have developed hubs of innovation within and a formal collaborative network across three Boston Neighborhoods: Dudley (Roxbury/North Dorchester), Mattapan, and Codman Square (Dorchester). We align preventive efforts across sectors to enhance existing services for children. This approach is sustainable because we embed community-driven preventive strategies in the context of existing systems for child health and education and community development. We strive to connect and strengthen opportunity structures that support protective factors and family strengths within existing community resources. We couple community-based participatory research and improvement science methodology to drive progress.

Meet 2026 STRIVE Learning Community Fellow Brenda Powers, from the YMCA RTH Early Education Center. More about Brenda -

I am a proud, lifelong early educator. My love of early education and care began with Mrs. Barrie, my early education teacher. I loved my experience in preschool. There are some things I still remember vividly. I grew up wanting to provide that same experience for other children. As I grew as a professional, I realized the role of an early educator was more that what was visible on the surface. I have worked in the field for more than four decades. I am still learning and growing as a professional, but am lucky enough to love the work I do and the people with whom I work.

Conoce a Angela Pacheco D'Perez, Becaria de la Comunidad de Aprendizaje STRIVE del 2026, de la YMCA East Boston. Más sobre Angela -

Angela Pacheco D'Perez.

Angela Pacheco D'Perez. I am a proud Salvadoran immigrant, a dedicated mother, an educator, and a psychologist. I have served as a preschool teacher at the East Boston YMCA since 2021. In my daily practice, I combine my background in psychology with my passion for early childhood education, bringing a unique, trauma-informed perspective—centered on socio-emotional development—to my classroom. To this end, I establish predictable routines and implement innovative projects—such as the "Kindness Mailbox"—to support my young students' growth. Beyond my professional life, I am an active member of the Boston community—a devoted family woman who treasures the time I share with my husband and children, weaving my rich cultural traditions, my love for Latin music, and my professional expertise into every aspect of my life.
